I recently had a Fibroscan and had a score of 9 which has freaked me out a bit, so I’ve tried to cut back on drinking and eat healthily.
I’ve seen my GP for a follow up and he didn’t seem too concerned, I thought I was close to cirrhosis so am pretty scared, as I thought the Kpa for cirrhosis was 10, but have recently read that for alcoholic cirrhosis it’s more around 12kpa.
Which is it, as I’m very confused!

Different liver conditions have different cut of scores for when the kPa figure goes up the scale. According to the fibroscan score chart where alcohol is the causal factor.
Up to 6 kPa is F0 (normal liver), up to 8 kPa (F1 fibrosis - mild fibrosis), up to 11 kPa (F2 Fibrosis - moderate fibrosis), 11 - 12 kPa (F2-F3 fibrosis), 12 - 19.5 kPa (F3 Fibrosis - Severe fibrosis), 19 - 22.5 kPa (F3-F4 fibrosis - incomplete cirrhosis with bridging), 22.5 - 75 kPa (Cirrhosis).
The kPa score may be falsely inflated too if you have ongoing inflammation since fibroscan can't tell the difference between inflamed tissue and actual fibrosis. It is important to have some up to date liver bloods to check for inflammation to go along with your fibroscan result.
I was 19 and was told I was borderline cirrhosis but I'm being treated for early cirrhosis because the consultant didn't tell me I borderline till 2 years after the test he had done on me I was obstinate for 10 months after he told me but fell by the wayside on and off the drink since I dont think you have anything to worry about speak to you consultant if he has anytime to talk to you mine doesn't seem to care that's mainly why I've given up although at the minute my bloods are all good and luckily still symptom free but I know that could change I suffer bouts of depression my son was murdered aged 16 that was just over 21 years ago and at times I loose the will to carry on but goodluck for the future I doubt you have cirrhosis but I'm not a doctor Godbless 👍
I'm not judging, just curious. If you are under the impressive you might be near cirrhosis, or that you have it, why is your response to "cut back drinking"? Surely you should stop it immediately?
It's not that simple if it was that simple there would be no alcoholics in the world millions of people are walking about with cirrhosis not knowing they have it why do people with copd still smoke
so sorry for your loss 🌹 I also lost a child many years ago she was 16.
It’s hard! But despite that, I’m still here, despite my original diagnosis and what seems to be message or something. With my reversal of a so called “irreversible “ score. So I figure I’ve not completed whatever it is I have to complete with this life- and I frequently ask myself why I’m still here, and I’m older than you! Your innings is not up yet!
