Ultrasound Question

I saw my usual doctor after another doctor refused ultrasound. After I told my symptoms and knowing my history she said you need an ultrasound even before I asked. Best doc I've ever had.

Anyway, intense itching especially hands, feet, scalp and dull ache, sometimes pain, in my right side, and also my left. Trouble sleeping for weeks from discomfort everywhere in my abdomen.

I had the ultrasound. I asked afterwards if there was anything. She said everything looks fine. I was happy and relieved. But then late yesterday evening I thought, if there was, would she say? Are they allowed to divulge any pertinent information? I suspect not. It isn't there job . I shouldn't have asked perhaps but it was my natural reaction. She took a lot of photographs.

Yes I know wait and see, but I'm actually curious to what formation an ultrasonographer are allowed to give. Thanks.

Hi

My experience with many scans and tests is that the person taking them has rarely commented on the results - either way. They have answered questions on what is normal (size etc) but as we are all different for the reasons we are "there" they refuse anything more directly linked to specifically me.

This is just my experience - it may be different for other people.

Kind regards

Shep

When I had my ultrasound they told there and then

I always speak to the sonographer and ask them there and then. They always tell me there and then if anything unexpected has been found, with the caveat that they need o do a proper report as the final answer.

"intense itching especially hands, feet, scalp"

Is your blood sugar ok?

I have ultrasounds every six months and the sonographer always tells me if there is anything amiss. I have a gallstone which causes me no symptoms but it’s always raised. They wouldn’t tell you everything was ok if it wasn’t. Relax and stop worrying.

if there needed to be an urgent follow up they would have told you. My sonographer told me straight away to see my GP immediately and that he had found a mass in my liver and also one in my kidney. If you haven’t heard anything yet stay calm.

Hi, when hubby has had his ultra sounds in the past they have just said 'no change' there and then. But always added 'call your doctor in a few weeks for more detail after we have compared it with earlier ones' . The first one he had they just said 'call the doctor who requested the scan in a few weeks'. I'm not sure they can give too much info but have said, when I asked, that if all was ok they would say that aswell as call the doctor. Hope that helps. I guess if there is something wrong the dr will contact you when they get the result anyway. Hope all ok, just look after yourself in the mean time.
