Hi everyone, please am new here. I was told I have fatty liver . I complained about pain in my right upper and lower stomach. The Dr. Said. Fatty liver doesn’t cause pain but am still having this pain once in awhile. No gallstones . No prescription than to reduce 10 percent of my weight . Please I would greatly appreciate your response. Thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum. Sometimes fatty liver - particularly if your liver is enlarged or inflamed can cause some degree of pain. It's not the liver itself but the membrane which encapsulates it that can give off pain if it's stretched.

If fatty liver is indeed what's going on the the suggestion of weight loss through healthy eating and exercise is the best way to treat it.

The British Liver Trust have an excellent guide to NAFLD (Non Alcohol Related Fatty Liver Disease) at:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

They also have a downloadable publication on treating NAFLD with healthy eating and exercise. Which you should be able to get here:- britishlivertrust.org.uk/in...

Best wishes, Katie

Starprincess would suggest (no, that implies 'you could'), insists you eat healthy, GET any excess weight off. Eat unprocessed foods and plenty of 'GREENS', especially Broccoli and Kale.

Cut out as much 'Added Salt' as you can. Cook veg Salt free from now on. Products will Salt and Sugars is a minefield, try to find alternatives. But be careful, drinks, for example, that say Sugar Free usually contain Sugar Alternatives that IS worse for you than actual sugar. Sugars from vegetables is Good Sugar for the body. As you know, there are Bad Fats and Good Fats, so with Sugars. Remember, making changes is good, no matter how small.

Hi welcome hope you are well today. I too had NAFLD that required a full Liver Transplant more than 6 years ago now. Obviously a successful procedure in my case but very scary. I had no pain just discomfort and fluid retention, Ascites, you may have a similar problem. I was being drained every week to ten days . Regards diet, protein and milk or milky products were advised. I lost weight prior to the transplant as I had no appetite, that has now returned with avengeance.Good luck and take care make sure you get what is needed and don't worry.

Did your NAFLD cause fibrosis and scarring? I’m just curious why you needed a liver transplant unless the NAFLD progressed to something more sinister. Hope you are doing well with the transplant.

I hope I'm not patronising you, but please take this diagnosis seriously. I didn't listen to my doctors to lose weight, over the years. Unfortunately my fatty liver, progressed to NASH, and then cirrhosis. Unfortunately I still did not listen and I eventually required a transplant.
