I’m a 48 year old female from the USA. I had to have an abdominal ultrasound today and it said my liver measured at 16.5cm and was hepatic steatosis, and that my spleen was 13.4. Does this indicate simple fatty liver? Also, is the spleen enlarged? It did also say the portal vein was patent and flowing in the correct direction. I appreciate any input or advice.

Hepatic Steatosis is fatty liver. However, you'd need to ask your own medical team whether your spleen is enlarged or not. Good news about portal veinous flow.
Action needed by yourself now to try and stop this condition getting worse and give your liver a chance to heal.

Hi you sound similar to me. Have you had blood tests that point towards liver issues?
Surprisingly my blood test for liver issues are completely normal. My ast is 22 and alt 18, all others like bilirubin and albumin are normal as well, I’ve read that can be like that in fatty liver. The spleen thing is what is making me wonder what the heck is going on. Do you also have an enlarged spleen? Ty for taking time to respond.
Yes my spleen is enlarged (15cm) but I have yet to see the liver specialist so not sure what’s going on and I’m just following a healthy diet until I do.
Just wanted to update you, went to my pcp today. She said that the radiologist didn’t flag my spleen as being enlarged and since it appeared normal on ultrasound not to worry about it. So, I’m gonna believe her. Just said to diet and exercise for weight loss.
