As I’m sipping on the last half of my first liter of water for the day I was wondering whether there are any additives you put in your water for health reasons? Just something to aid in or improve your overall health.
I drink at least 2 liters a day and don’t mind the taste in the least, but if I can add something that benefits me even more while I’m at it then why not?
I’ve read about the usual cucumber and fruits and whatnot but that seems to be mostly for taste and not necessarily a health benefit.
My parents add magnesium supplements and the like to their water sometimes but I don’t want to go doolally with supplements especially at the moment after diagnosis.
Let me also just add I am going to be seeing a nutritionist, but that might be about a month or so from now after I see two more specialists and do a few more tests so in the mean time was purely curious. I’ll be drinking more water now as it’s summer here so a bit of a pertinent question.

Yes as stated I will be seeing a nutritionist as soon as all the results are in so I guess I’ll be waiting on that. It was just curiosity to know if there is anything that will not harm but help, but I can see I’d be better off just sticking to plain old mineral water for now. 👍
Everything that enters the mouth then from the digestive tract enters the liver and must undergo neutralisation and detoxification. If the liver is already working with difficulty, then it's definitely difficult for it to cope with the additional load, which has been repeatedly written here. The benefit to the liver of any supplement is not scientifically proven at all, and the generally accepted concept is that the liver needs to rest from any additional exposure in order to allow it to deal with what else it can do. There is also no doubt that doctors in certain situations are forced to use certain medications if the benefits of using them significantly exceed the risks of their use and are strictly scientifically substantiated and confirmed.
Might I suggest fresh lemon squeezed into delicious ice cold water.
Filtered water is a definite recommendation over mineral water. It elimates the need for your liver to process otherwise needless compounds that could be less than beneficial.
At the end of the day, what your body wants is pure water!
The lemon tastes great and has fantastic cleansing properties. It is the only food that makes your liver produce vital enzymes which stimulate positive chemical reactions in the body that promote liver health and overall physical well being.
hi are you drinking bottled mineral water? If so try to switch to tap, lots of bottled water has high sodium! Flavour is all you need to add, until you have a full diagnosis I advise you stay away from supplements. Good luck
Oh lord no our tap water would kill me! 🤣 (I live in Africa) I’m on ordinary still purified water. No minerals or anything like that so all good on that front. 👍
Very good question 😀Even some areas of Britain the tap water tastes sif, it either tastes like chemicals or sewage water, I veery much doubt our tap water is healthy. I find Buxton bottled water is pretty good, but that's one of the cheap British ones, lately I have been struggling to get myself to drink water, I drink so much milk for my protein and tonic water for Quinine to help with cramps/spasms, drinking water becomes a chore. The NHS water tastes so much better when I go to hospital, quite often has ice in it, I do occassionally add some lemon to the water or even pieces of lemon in the water, but I find anything other than plain water doesn't fill my water quota.
”Sif”? You must be from SA originally as well? 🤣 Does quinine help for cramps? That’s amazing! If it does I will pass the info on to my Dad - fitness freak but struggles a lot with cramps and spasms especially at night in bed.
I’ve heard of the lemon in water especially to prevent gallstones and as far as I’m aware the one thing that’s doing very well are my kidneys so hopefully I can get the get go to drink that. Back to hospital tomorrow so will be hearing a few things…
I admit I wondered whether you hailed from that part of Africa, short of using "brak water", "sif" seemed more appropriate. 😃Quinine I hear is quite an addictive strong substance when prescribed, so I was advised by my specialist nurseconsultant to first use low calorie tonic water which has quinine in it. It started working with a few sips and since has grown to a glass of the stuff, but it definitely works for me. As long as I don't try to stretch my legs out! Those spasms are a weird thing, especially when I have my yellow eyes, I feel like I am shifting into my worlf form, nothing seems to be able to stop it, except taking tonic water with quinine in it!
I will advise him to give it a go 😊 He likes the taste so it’s worth a shot. He is a marathon runner and cyclist no other health issues apart from pushing a bit too hard sometimes. 😉
