ggt level

i have just had blood tests and don't know if my ggt is really high? I am 46 and moderate drinker.

i also have an elevated gamma gt around the same level as yours. I am not a drinker but do have an underlying liver condition. What are your blood results like in terms of platelet count, red blood cell count? Are they normal? My platelet count is high due to the condition I have.

Hi, my other blood test results are normal but the liver function alt and ast

have a word with your GP. Is their a plan in place, more bloods to be taken or a referral to see a liver specialist?

Hi Derek, a lot of people who've been drinking a while have fatty liver and elevated GGT is an indicator of that. Taken on it's own it's not a major concern but an ultrasound might be in order to confirm it? Do you have any symptoms? I've had high GGT for years, definitely caused by drinking but several long periods of abstinence have kept it under control. Might be worth looking at how much you drink, how moderate is moderate? morning Derek.

at my last bloods,done nearly 3 months ago,my bilirubin was high,and my gamma gt ....I stopped drinking all alcohol over 3 years ago....but mine has always fluctuated.. I contacted my liver nurse,as I've fluid gathering in my lower legs, so she wants upto date bloods done,next week.....and we will take it from there,when she gets results. At my worst,when drinking my ggt was heading much higher....so it has improved....but it still wont settle to where it should be, despite abstinence.
