Has anyone else become sensitive to salt? I have cut out added salt, there’s none in the house. But I’ve noticed even with certain cheeses, the next day I have a sort of mild dehydrated, hangover feeling. I’m guessing its because I eat clean now and notice it more? How I functioned all them years drinking and feeling like that ,but worse I do not know.

Yes I get it with salty cheeses like feta. I avoid it in salads these days as it really doesn’t make me feel great the day after I eat it. I also feel thirsty immediately after eating it. I’m amazed how much salt there is in stuff that you wouldn’t have expected. So I’m quite cautious and check labels these days.

I don’t have salt and I notice it in lots of food, I can’t eat cheddar anymore as it’s too salty lol

I know cheese is salty!!! I’m off it ATM. Great for the waste line!!

Hi Dean - like you never deliberately added salt in cooking or directly on food before going decompensated - just never liked it. However, have become hypersensitive to salt and can't stand lots of bought food containing it. Crucial to avoid salt but we all need about 2mg per day - impossible to keep track reading packets all the time so don't know how to control it. Any readers out there with suggestions?? Be careful avoiding cheese without compromising calcium intake. Reducing cheese consumption good for reducing fat intake which is good for avoiding gall stones. A tricky balancing act! Maybe seek a dietitian?? Have suggested/asked hospital and GP for dietitian input umpteen times to no avail so I row my own boat here. Not as it should be but hey ...

Yes indeed to all of that. The thing is,as you know everything is subjective and everyone has a different interpretation of information. I am fully rowing my own boat,while always researching and listen to new information and ideas. I’m a fan self-advocating. I have come to learn this in life in general.

No never had a hangover from cheese. Love the stuff! On a seperate note I had to stop using Losalt as it's high in Potassium and I ended up with hyperkamedia (dangerously high levels of Potassium)

Hey dean, no salt hangover but I know what you are talking about. The cheese must of been rich enough to mask the salt. I bit into a burger once on cheat day and spit it back out because their patty was far too salty. That’s from a place I used to eat at too. I never add salt to anything either. Some products are just made with too much of it. ESP in the USA.

I make every meal from scratch and barely use anything with salt . I also have diabetes and take insulin and have diverticulitis, so conflicting diets as well. Just had cottage pie and the only salt was 0.06g in a tin of tomatoes that I added. Batch cooked and had enough to make 5 meals. X

Did you mean you wanted the recipe? I just use any veg that are around. Today was carrot, swede, butter nut squash, onions, mushrooms, sweetcorn, frozen peas, shredded cabbage, cauliflower. I use 5% fat mince and cook that with the onions. I wash it when cooked to get rid of any fat. I put the mince and all the veg into my slow cooker and add a tin of tomatoes and cook it on high for about 12 hours.

I cook the potatoes without any salt and mash them with a little milk. Stick them on top of the slow cooker ingredients and then under the grill to brown off.

I feel kinda lucky with this part of my “no-no’s” as I have never liked salt much. Example; never got on with gammon, but will admit to enjoying fish and chips, but I always had the smallest sprinkling of salt as the usual amount was too much! I don’t actively seek it out, but I also don’t ingredient watch anything and everything because it’s impossible.

I used to love salt!!! I was putting loads on my food when I was decompensated(ascites)🤦‍♂️. I don’t remember being told not too. I also find milk really sweet since I cut out sugar.

I’ve noticed that I’ve become the salt police. Forget the Chinese food. I’m fine with that. 😆
