Salt alternatives

Hi. Can anyone tell me if potassium salt is a safe salt to use on my food? I have Ascites.

Any other alternatives? I can't eat a boiled egg without salt!

The example I gave of potassium salt in your other post was in relation to cheese as some use this instead of sodium chloride, to make it low in salt or salt free. This may or may not be a problem with those also on potassium sparing diuretics but I’m not sure about the evidence on that. I personally would not put anything extra onto food, especially potassium salts.

Sorry shalloty I'm not entirely sure. However the advice I got was instead of adding salt try just adding pepper. That did have an effect for me and did give some of the flavour enhancement I used to get from salt. So, maybe give that a try and see how you do.

Thanks Kristian.

Pepper makes a huge difference and after a while you really don’t notice not having salt. The dietetic advice that I received was to add lots of herbs and pepper to food. Remember there are zero salt stock cubes as well.

As a real salt addict before diagnosis. I now just love white pepper on everything and especially soft boiled eggs in the morning.... you do get use to it..and I now actually prefer it.
