Don't forget to swing your pants. 😃
Surely nothing is worn under the kilt
No idea Dave, I've never worn one. 😂 You probably don't remember 'Trevor and Simon' swinging their pants? That's what I meant.
Anyway 2022 better be a goodun or else I'm sending it back. 🙂
Probably a boring historical fact for you but technically what was worn under the kilt was a long shirt which was tied below the 'dangly bits'.
Historically in battle the kilt or great plaid/ féileadh-mór was actually unbelted and thrown off leaving the highlander to fight in his shirt tails - the kilt would otherwise get in the way of your sword and sheild. It's actually a falsehood when people claim to be a 'true Scotsman' because they are pantless.
As I tell the kiddie winkies in my schools historical workshops it's awfy chilly at times in the Highlands plus there is the dreaded Highland midgie so you would really want to have your bit under your kilt uncovered?
Aw the best tae ye, Hae a guid New Year and lang may your lum reek wi' ither peoples coal !!
Katie
Hi Katie I really wanted to say, 'Katie will know' but didn't want to intrude, so thank you.
I always wanted to get to the bottom of it pun intended. I always have Mel Gibson
(I KNOW I'M SORRY - THAT IS A MASSIVE INSULT) but just the visual of them at the top of the hill in Braveheart, so now I know and have a much better visual image of long vests and a proper fact!
"Aw the best tae ye" too Katie.
We will have no swinging of pants here ~ swinging of vests indeed, but nay swinging thee pants! 😃
*Northern to Southern translation*
Pants = trousers.
Vest = Vest.
,
Braveheart aargh!! Shouldn't have been any tartan or kilts in that film at all - only about 400 (at least) years too early. (I went and saw it being filmed in Glen Nevis ......... was a MG fan at the time! and got seriously into re-enacting afterwards).
Anyway, slightly off topic.
Have a good New Year.
Katie
I'm from Dan saff (Down South) originally and to translate southern to northern
Caught a Panda = Quarter pounder ... just in case you wandered in a mcdonalds in London and think everyone is talking about capturing black & white bears lol
Happy New Year to all who run this site you do a wonderful job. 🥳💕
Happy New Year to everyone at the BLT who carry out what I would term as very rewarding
jobs. This Forum means so much to all Members who communicate and respond to each other from all parts of the World and UK. This could not be done without the BLT's brilliant Team, vast knowledge and resources. Thank you so much to all. May 2022 be kind to everyone.
