immune Hepatitis. My liver is showing signs of scirrocis. I was first diagnosed in 2019 and stated on steroid tablets. The tablets were gradually reduced as my blood results improved but when I went down to 5mg Prexneselone the condition flared up again so the steroids were in creased. I have been on these a while they are trying Azathtaprine with a view to taking me off the steroids. I am in lot of pain with my knee joints and 1 wrist. I have minimized gluten and fat intake as this may help. I am also looking at taking enzyme tablets. Can anyone suggest anything else that may help as the knee pain is pretty bad some of the days and I then take ibuprofen.

Thank you I prefer herbal remedies rather than pain killers but my knee pain was so bad I started the ibuprofen. I will speak to the health professionals about an alternative. Also I heard that BOSWELLIA is a good anti inflammatory.

Turmeric is a anti inflammatory and good for liver I don't like it but am.going to start adding it to my powder curry my mam.sprinkles it on her food as she has blocked arteries and inflammation in the body doesn't help this and beetroot and Caine pepper 🤗

You have to be very careful with turmeric, it shouldn’t be taken with blood thinning medicine.

in reply toArymretep

Hi M yes my mam takes it on meals I have told her about the blood thinners she's on but she still sprinkles it on as scared of getting inflammation in body again as it showed in her bloods last heart attack how are you pixie has a slow heart rate he's asleep a lot now 🤗😺💐

Good morning,

In general it is recommended that patients with liver disease avoid non steroidal medications such as ibuprofen because of their potential impact on the liver/kidneys . Even topical applications (gels) will lead to some absorption which will in turn have to be metabolised by the liver. It is really important that you discuss your pain management with your GP/medical team.

Thank you so much for this insight I will consult the liver team.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news BUT - herbal remedies can cause problems too. Most complementary and alternative medicines(such as herbal medications) or treatments are based on principles and an evidence base that are not recognised by the majority of independent scientists. At present, healthcare professionals are not clear on the role and place of some therapies in the presence of liver disease. More research needs to be done on the use of such therapies.

Many products are not classified as a medicine and therefore are not licensed, which means you cannot be sure how much of the active ingredient you are getting or how pure it is. Traditional herbal medicines do not have to undergo the stringent regulatory processes that medical drugs have to; therefore manufacturers do not have to prove effectiveness in well-designed large trials.

It is wise to be cautious about the claims made for herbal remedies, particularly those advertised on the internet, as they can offer false hope..

Always check with your medical team before taking anything other than your prescribed medications.

regards

Thank you I will ask them before I take anything. I just wanted to know if anyone had good results regarding enzyme tablets to do with liver issues as this is an organ that help to digest food.

I have been through hepatitis C, and now have been told that I have Cirrhosis. I am not an expert by any means, but in my studies of the disease, I found that Ibuprofen is very bad for Cirrhosis patients. Acetaminophen (Tylenol) is okay up to 2,000 or 3,000 mgs per day. I'm not sure what the difference in mgs is , so I would stay with the lower number just to be on the safe side. Hope this helps ! 😊

Thank you as I have limited knowledge on this journey I will speak to the liver medicine team

That sounds like a very good idea. I do know that everything I have read has said that Ibuprofen and other nsaids are VERY bad for the cirrhotic liver. So you are wise to bypass them.

Try A535 topical cream for your knee. Might give some relief. Or hot/cold compress.

Thank you I will try the cream. So nice of everyone to take the time. You feel less isolated with your ailments.

I was on 100mg azathioprine and did not have any joint pain, dose was increased to 150mg and I began to experience severe joint pain, particularly in hands, feet and knees. I was told this joint pain was nothing to do with medication I was on. However, after a blood test, it was found that the azathioprine dose was too high so dosage went back down to 100mg. Amazingly, even though told joint pain was "nothing to do with medication", the joint pain subsided!
