How often are fibroscans wrong? ls it more common to have a lower fibroscan be accurate or a higher?

hi
Higher ones can be a false high reading - if operator hits a rib or indeed you have ongoing inflammation. Fibroscan needs to be taken alongside other tests to provide a full & accurate picture. Fibroscan can't tell the difference between actual fibrous tissue/scarring or a high level of inflammation so we've had people on here who scored the full 75 kPa and when compared with blood results they showed inflammation - when the inflammation went down so did the fibroscan score.
I note you say you had fibroscan when both your AST and ALT were elevated - those are your inflammation markers so possibly your fibroscan result is a false high. 11.8 kPa for NAFLD/NASH would be borderline for F3/F4 if accurate.
I see you are still waiting a further scan so hopefully it will help reveal the full picture.
