Hi people, so glad I found this community, I've read a few posts and it really helps me not to feel isolated after my very recent transplant

Hi Paul, Congratulations on your transplant and welcome to the forum. I hope things are all going well for you. It's early days for you( I am 8 months post transplant and all is well). Remember to take things slowly and no lifting, that way you are more likely to have forward steps and no backward ones. It will be lovely for you to have the summertime for your 'rebirth'. All the very best for your ongoing recovery. Alf

Thankyou... I'm trying my best not to overdo things but I fear I am being lulled into a false sense of security... also it's the perfect excuse to do nowt lol but I am a tad sick of the inside of my house, still pretty weak and cant walk far. My biggest problem at the moment is the uncontrollable shakes, its leaving me unable to do anything really which is frustrating as I feel amazing. Drs assure me this should pass as my body adjusts to the medication, I'm just impatient lol and I'm sure my carpet would thank me if I gave in and used a sippy cup 😂

Yes, been there with the shakes. I like to play the guitar but I had to forget about that for a few months. It will pass, as they say when your body gets used to your new meds and also as they reduce your meds. I know what you mean about the drinks, LOL. I found that having flavoured bottled water and drinking from the bottle helped, also when having tea or coffee, half a cup was easier and certainly less messy! Just stick to a small walk in the garden for now. It won't be long before you can do more. It really is frustrating at first I know when you feel so weak but it's a small price to pay for an extended life. Eat plenty of protein for healing and enjoy all the repeats on the telly :-)

Hahaha just invested in every streaming service going lol not sure I can afford to though... I earn extra money from bartering, not sure many are gonna want me approaching with scissors or a cut throat razor 😂 it'll take time but for the 1st time in a few years, things seem good and I can see the light at the end, almost feel it on my face 😀

Barbering, not bartering lol

Lol, realised that you meant barbering but maybe bartering would be better for the time being (especially with TV providers). Definitely give your profession a rest for the very near future. Yes, it's great that feeling of having a new future. Once you are past the initial bruising and swelling you will begin to feel really well and that's when you have to be careful not to do too much too soon, can't stress that enough! Try to enjoy your enforced rest, LOL.

Hi PaulHull

Congratulations on your transplant. My husband had his transplant 13 months ago and like you found the posts on this site very reassuring. It’s great to hear that there is a wonderful life post transplant and there’s no catch! Like Alf says just remember to take things slowly and be patient, you’ll get there before you know it. My husband has now been playing several full rounds of golf a week for the last few months and is back to the same level (or even better) than pre transplant. He also does the majority of cooking, food shopping etc etc which a year ago thought would be impossible. I’m just trying to reassure you that you’ll get back to your normal life hopefully in a very short time and your shaky hands will be a thing of the past. His scar has also healed really well, it’s now a very faint white line. Wishing you all the best on your continuing recovery, best wishes Pam x

Hi Paul

I join bigfreddy and IPCN (that rolls off the tongue 😁) and Trusty1 in saying Hi and welcome!

Like bigfreddy I had my TP 8 months ago yippee and aren’t we the lucky lucky ones 👍. How recent is recent for you?

Yes be very, and I mean very, careful as to what you do. After about 3 months you will think what’s all the fuss about and you may even start hoovering - it’s true you might 😁 - but don’t. And DON’T carry those shopping bags. As you might gather that this is me speaking from experience! Serves me right because I thought I knew better and am still paying the price - albeit a small one (although bigfred may say different as I whinge to him about my stomach every day by email 😁. Poor freddy ☹️)

So as they both say life is truly good after the TP and it is amazing (well it is for me) how you soon you forget how ill you really were pre the TP!

So good luck for a speedy recovery - lots of 👍👍.

Miles

Cheers, mine was 2weeks yesterday and I'm already feeling the temptation of doing too much but will heed the advice 👍 I just feel fantastic (apart from the rather tedious shakes lol) don't know what I was expecting but this is 3million times better 😀
