What does it mean when I have a fibro scan done 14 months ago it was 12.7.now 14 month later it was 8. Not drank since first scan at 12.7.as liver nurse said cirrhosis. Also she mentioned about another reading. I.OR not a clue what that means it was 1.9. Any one shed a light on what's happening n the readings.? Thanks chris

Readings
Hi chrisr998
Tests such as FibroScan can’t diagnose specific liver diseases but they can give doctors an idea of how badly the liver is damaged.
No one is medically qualified on the forum, and it is important that you discuss these results with your own doctor for their medical assessment, they have access to your complete medical notes and are best placed to advise.
Take care and best wishes.
I honestly don't know that l was ever given any readings per se, just what they meant to me individually. For example, my last fibroscan showed fatty liver and cirrhosis. My last MRI showed a small umbilical hernia and varices on my tummy. I live in America though, we let the doctors tell us what the tests mean.
Saying that, I think the Fibroscan score going down is a good thing? The test measures stiffness of the liver if l'm not mistaken. The other test you mention might be INR, that is a test of how well your blood clots. Hope that helps!
P. S. Next time, take some one with you to ask questions and take notes of what it is you wanted to ask. These specialists are very busy, but it's your time to get answers for yourself. Good luck!
Hi again Chris, it seems that almost every month you come back with nearly the same query - as we've said in the past the 12.7 kPa may or may not have been early cirrhosis but following your successful lifestyle changes a kPa of 8 is back into the fibrosis range of scores.
12.7 kPa where alcohol was thought to be the cause would only have been F3, if it had been non alcohol related fatty liver then you might just have been into the F4.
IQR would have been the other figure quoted - this just purely means the Inter Quartile Range which is the spread of the figures they used the average of to achieve the kPa score. It is part of the mathematical equation and reveals nothing about your liver.
Keep up your good work, your liver is looking a lot healthier by the sounds of it.

Hi Katie sorry I know I've asked this before. But I was watching a lecture about liver disease and the woman speaker said a interesting quote. Said using a fibroscan when the liver is inflamed is usually inaccurate. Also said if the alt is above 100 then that's a marker for inflammation. Mine alt was 160 at the time of scan. None of this was explained. This is why we gets stressed and confused. She also said its best too do the test after absence from alcohol to and when imflammation has subsided. This is a true reading. Yet again nothing explained too be by the so called professionals. So yeah I'm at 8 now. Went from 12.7 with imflammed liver. Down to 11.5 6mth later alt was slightly raised. Now all liver function tests are normal range. Down to 8kpa. So all along the symptoms I've experienced could have been due too a severe fatty liver. Yet again not explained to me. All she said on that first day is you have cirrhosis. See u in 6 mth. To me that poor advise. Chris
If you look back at your own thread entitled 'Synexus' of two months ago, I did explain that fibroscan can't differentiate between ongoing inflammation and actual liver fibrosity often giving too high a reading. I've mentioned it in others of your Fibroscan posts too.
This is what I wrote on your Synexus thread "You need to have a serious chat with your doctor to get these results explained. Your CAP level is almost at the top possible score for fatty infiltration (CAP only goes to 400). kPa is in the cirrhosis band UNLESS you also have ongoing inflammation - Fibroscan can not differentiate between scarring and ongoing liver inflammation so it might not in reality be as high a reading as shown"
It all looks like things are going in the right direction for you.
Katie
Hi Katie. My doctor just says I have have a fatty liver. Never seems concerned. I will tell u what they do when I go in for a chat. They look at blood results n say hmm you liver readings are perfect. When I mention symptoms. They do nothing. Just say it's anxiety. The symptoms are real. I'm not even worried tbh as liver working. The key question is have I got cirrhosis or not. U either have or not. Can't have a unanswered question. Needs answering. It sounds like I might not have with the inflammation been present at first scan. Also can the severe fatty liver reverse. Is so how. What time scale. If not got cirrhosis can the liver fully recover in time with that right diet n absence. Theses are the important questions that no one can seem to answer. Chris
Chris, glad your score went down, looks like you don't have much inflammation going on right now, keep off the alcohol and eat right, Hope you're not still having pain and itching, if so it will leave if you stay clean.
Hi, can’t comment on you but it in my case my specialist told me MY fatty liver was reversible, is reversing due to lifestyle changes and could take two years to fully heal.
I went from a 21 to an 8 in a year and she said it probably picked up inflammation which has got better with lifestyle change.

Hi Chris
A month ago in an earlier message I congratulate you on your great achievement in reducing your kpa down to 8.
I know how frustrated and concerned you must feel as I've been under investigation for 2 years with with raised ALT's ..GGT's at 298 which at the time was classed as a concern to my consultant . For almost 12 months I was informed I may have PBC by both my nursing specialist and my consultant. Then last October my consultant said my symptoms were pushing her to think I may have Sarcoid but my latest blood have yet again not confirmed this but my consultant said it doesnt mean I dont have it! I've undergone CT, MRI, Ultrascans fibrscan of 4.8 Cap 259. Unfortunately for me I keep having flare ups, feeling unwell, tiredness, itchy skin, high tempertures of 105 etc etc . One week or maybe a month I feel good like there's nothing wrong with me then from out of the blue something knocks me off my feet again. The not knowing for sure whats exactly wrong is frustrating as it makes me feel like a fraud. I do have somekind of autoimmune diseases that flare's up and raises my LFT 's hence my consultant won't discharge me and has requested I carry on with numerous routine blood tests!
I'm sorry if I've bored you with all of the above but I just wanted to say life's to short to keep worrying..... your KPa is going in the right direction and I'm hoping your feeling the benefit of the life changes you've made? I know things are bad globally and its tough for us all to keep foscused on things we can still do and enjoy in life! All I know is there are many on here who would give anything to change places with me as the saying goes as I xan still do many things!
Chris try and enjoy life on those days your feeling well and dont worry about whats ahead.
Love
Trish
