hair loss
I have quite bad hair loss. But I have always attributed it to my type 2 diabetes, never really thought it could be my cirrhosis. It would be interesting to see if anyone else has this issue.
I have lost three quarters of my lovely locks due to cirrhosis. I find this very distressing. Also my lovely teeth have rotted and snapped off. It’s also to do with autoimmune disease.
I am afraid so. When I was at my worst it was coming out constantly and lots of it.G ood diet and no alcohol help but I am post menopausal too which doesn't help at all.
I’ve suffered with hair loss too. I was informed by the hospital that cirrhosis only causes the thinning of hair and not actual loss. Mine has been attributed to stress and menopause. Calcium tablets help which I have taken for a long time
Be wary of the specialist shampoos available as these are expensive and two hairdressers I spoke to state there is no proof they work.
Ask your GP to do blood tests as there could be another cause. Thyroid problems etc.
YES!Hair loss and thinning 😔
My doctor put it down to stress (try to be less stressed! Not terribly helpful!)
Post menopausal, eating issues (which are improving) etc. So I think it's probably a combination of several things rather than just my cirrhosis.
Kindest wishes

I had hair loss when I first started on my Ursodiol medication. This is for primary biliary cirrhosis. And then it subsided. Then I had hair loss again when I started on azathioprine, for my rheumatoid arthritis. This time, the doctor advised me to take Folic Acid. Which brought all my hair back. Of course you need to talk to Dr. first.
hope this works for everyone,

Hi there ,my husband has cirrhosis ,due to alcohol.Whilst he has gone from decompensated to compensated .and is teetotal for past 10yrs..he has lost body hair and teeth have become very weak and rotted, and his knee joints are very bad .He is 53 and needs both knee replacements, mobility very bad and can no longer work as a plasterer.Sleeps during day ,awake at night .Lethargic at times ,cirrhosis and mobility factors there. .His crowning glory on his head is ok ,just body hair disappeared..think is hormone related due to cirrhosis .As liver has so many important body functions
Yes, I’m losing handsful of hair every day. I’m post menopausal and I have hypothyroidism though, so it may be from any of those things.
Yes, me too. I have had good improvement using a biotin supplement (B16?) Which I first confirmed as ok with consultant, Also good response to collagen shampoo, OGX was the one I went with, very satisfied with results. Good luck.
Really interesting reading everyone's replies. Yes I have aswell, my consultant puts this down to me not being able to metabolise vitamin D. I take a large weekly supplement and it does help. However like others I have an autoimmune disease too which compounds the issue. Really hope you get to the bottom of your particular situation, big hugs x
Thank you it’s my daughter who’s 30 I’m struggling how to support her when I just look at her and want to break
Dear Lisad52
If you [are in the UK and] would find it useful to talk things over, our nurse-led helpline is open Monday to Friday from 9am to 3pm on 0800 652 7330 (excluding bank holidays).
We also facilitate a range of virtual support groups for people living with a liver condition (and their families and carers) and our carers group takes place monthly.
If you [are in the UK and] would find it helpful to speak to others with shared experience, you can register to join a group here

Hi I've had it for years live pretty clean no drinking, but lately I've been noticing I'm losing more hair the last month or so & my meld score went for the 1st which worries me! I don't if that is a sign for more damage or not! I would ask your doctor!
My hair was not looking the best, and slightly thinning when I was ill. In the last year, it has done a turnaround and has become thick and lush. The same is true for my skin. It looks better than ever.
So, if you heal from within, it can bring positive results to your outside appearance too. (At least from my experience)
I hope this brings some positivity and inspiration.
