Hi. My husband had a ct scan on 31 Oct as an x Ray showed he has a lung nodule. The scan showed he has a cyst on his kidney and a cyst on his liver. The consultant he saw at the end of december to talk about the nodule (she said it had been there a long time and definitely not cancer. She said the cysts were nothing to worry about but would order an ultrasound. He had that middle of february. Now today we get a call out of the blue to go for a mri scan on his liver on saturday. This is on hold for a few days as he is allergic to the contrast dye
I am now so worried! Why do they want to do this. Especially with all that's going on with covid 19. I dont want him anywhere near a major hospital at the moment! I thought all non urgent things had been cancelled
Hes 74 by the way and takes digoxin for atrial fibrillation for the last 3 months otherwise fit and healthy for his age. Walks miles a day (well normally when we are not in lockdown). Thanks all

I really feel for you both. If you are worried could you call consultant's secretary to see why he's being sent for this MRI. Please let me know how he gets on. Thinking of you. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
Lynne is right Janau - you really should be told the reason for the MRI scan. They may not want to tell you over the phone but you should be told when you go in.
Try not to worry too much. Most liver & kidney cysts are benign. The same applies to lung nodules.
An MRI gives a clearer picture of the cyst. It's a little over a month since the ultrasound & the consultant may have more time available due to the Corona virus & is just checking more carefully by ordering an MRI to confirm that the cysts are benign.
Cancerous cysts are usually hard & can be removed. Benign cysts are usually filled with fluid & can be drained. Liver cysts are usually left alone unless they grow beyond a certain size (5 centimetres).
Thank you Edward. I was at work when he had the ultrasound and he never asks questions! Me I want to know everything. To be honest I'd even forgotten that he had had it with all that's going on! Then the phone call yesterday absolutely threw me. Keep safe and thanks
It's ok. If a cysts is picked up on ultrasound it's not that easy to determine what type of cyst it is. Its therefore pretty standard from my experience for them to do an MRI just to confirm what type of cyst it is.
As Edward said, most cysts are benign. But, they will want to just make sure to be on the safe side. Hence the MRI.
Oh thank you Kristian for that. Put my mind at rest a little. I panicked yesterday as I thought all stuff like this had been cancelled at the moment. Keep safe
Hi all. Good news at least. Hospital rang and when I explained I didnt really want to be in the hospitals at the moment they said it's fine it's not urgent 😍
