High GGT

Hi all, hope everyone not too bad! Just had a phone consultation with my GP to discuss my recent blood tests. These were AST, GGT and vitamin D. Vitamin D and AST fine. GGT at 131. He told me that under normal circumstances he would refer me to a gastro specialist but obviously these are not normal times. The ggt score together with platelet score might indicate possible fibrosis-I say probably fibrosis. The GP is being cautious which is good. So 6 week phone call follow up for me which right now is fine considering what's going on around us. For the last few days my digestive system seems to be improving as well-stool colour normalizing. This after 5 and a half months alcohol free and 10kgs weight loss. We shall see. Stay safe all.

Hi Brick

So on balance are you pleased with that? On my monitor I use the units Units/litre

- is that what you use. If so your value is still high isn’t it....😕

Hi Miles hope all well firstly-no doubt you've had an email re covid-19 from liver trust which is worth a read especially for TP patients. Back to me...pleased with my results? Put it this way-unsurprised is more like it. I was expecting high GGT given my symptoms-pleased that AST is normal. Happy with GP now I've found someone who is taking it seriously. There will be delay in further diagnosis. C'est la vie. I'm not seriously ill-occasional mild ataxia-occasional non-persistent itching. Occasional liver twinges. Brian fog that was there has pretty much gone so have stopped taking lactulose. Sleep patterns good. My gut feeling is level3 fibrosis at the minimum. We'll see what the gastro says when I finally see one. could take 3 months being realistic. Meanwhile carrying on losing weight or trying to-mild exercise and mo alcohol-not much else I can do... You take very good care at the moment...best Brick

That’s a very pragmatic approach 👍.

Love the way you have been able to stop lactulose and no more HE! Brill. HE was the thing that kept putting me in Hospital and am still, 19 months post TP, suffering from the memory problems it has caused. Still that is a small price to pay - that’s for sure 😀.

As you say not much more you can do now....

Thank you and you also take care

Miles

tbh Miles as I don't actually have a diagnosis-I tried lactulose in order to aid sleep-it wasn't prescribed. However my feeling is now that My digestion seems to be better-i.e. bile flow improved-I'm not getting the build up of bacteria-and so less ammonia. Of course I'm guessing....I supect there may be some H.E but not to the extent that's it's posing an issue. Thanks for your interset as always
