Travel Insurance in the UK?

My partner is now very poorly, but still motivated enough to consider some weekend breaks in the UK.But... he is anxious that if he fell ill and went to hospital we might be stuck miles away from home. Before I start searching, has anyone looked into insurance to cover private ambulance transfer within the UK or if that is even something that's available?

Thank you

Anything is possible at a hefty price and private health insurance would cover ambulance transfers but all insurance would probably exclude existing conditions. Short term travel insurance might cover it if you declare all conditions but you won't get stand alone ambulance cover.

Try the comparison sites.

hi, great that you are thinking you might be able to get out and about. What is worrying you? That if needed you would need to get back to your local liver unit? If it were needed and he fell ill enough to need urgent referral to a liver unit I assume he would go to the closest one if for example he fell ill in London.

Thank you for your reply, and also for the very sensible advice in the previous answer from Roy1955! We are now at the stage of our journey where only palliative care is appropriate. So the worry is, if we take a holiday and a sudden deterioration occurs while we are away from home. How do we make sure we aren't stranded while he is maybe admitted to hospital for a while? And no doubt getting excellent care from the NHS no matter where we are.

To be honest I am asking this question because I promised that I would look into what's possible. I think for me the anxiety of being the carer away from our familiar surroundings might defeat the whole point of the time away.

Best Wishes

Andy

Only answer to that is go for it!!

It's no good looking back and regretting not doing something.

I have read your post from 3weeks ago.

Forget the "what iffs" and make some memories!

You are so right and thank you for the encouragement. A bit of a bumpy road at the moment and I'm grateful for the support.

Hi there, my mum was too scared to go out and towards the end of her life when she wanted to go she was too ill. So go now and make those memories whilst he is able to, make videos enjoy your time together and you don't have to go far to have a holiday, maybe plan in some things nearer to home. Life slips away too fast with this disease, thinking of you xx now go make some memories ❤
