Another huge setback...

I was in a terrible state yesterday afternoon and through the night when I hardly slept because of pain and fear.

I am going to see my GP again this morning in the walk-in clinic at my surgery.

Hi Graham,

I'm sorry to hear your pain and anxiety are still getting the better of you.

When you see your GP, tell him of your anxiety issues, and ask for counselling help.

Pain, is unfortunately, just something people with liver issues can get, but you should ask your GP for help with it.

I hope your GP consultation goes well.

David

Hi

How did you go on at the Drs? We're you able to tell him everything that is worrying you? Please take care of yourself Lynne

Hello Lynne

Before we even start to talk about how I am, I hope you’re feeling better today, and have had a better day than yesterday.

I did go to the doctors, and I did try to tell him everything that was on my mind.

He went through my recent test results at length and gave me a further medical, and said everything seems fine to him.

He also prescribed me some sedatives for my anxiety, and gave me a sick note for two weeks to give me a chance to rest and for the medication to take effect. I am seeing the doctor again next Tuesday when I hope to have improved sufficiently to start to think about going back to work.

My manager was lovely when I rang her. She told me she had worried about me last week, and said it was a “good call” from my doctor to have given me the time off that he has.

I’m also hoping to restart a course of CBT in the next few weeks, too.

Have a happier evening tonight, and an excellent night’s sleep...

Regards as ever

Graham

Graham, you've been posting your same worries on this forum for 6 years now reading back your older posts. Your posts are nigh on identical to those from several years ago. You seem to have had all sorts of tests which have largely given you the all clear as regards your liver. Obviously, you've got something going with regards to the pain but it doesn't sound like it's liver related. You need the follow up regarding the potential gall stone issue as that sounds more likely.

Are you still running? You've posted on various running forums on the Health Unlocked community. Could this pain be muscular related to running?

Your health anxiety seems to be the biggest demon you are dealing with and if your GP can give you help with that you might be able to calm down and get your pains under control. Sadly, mental worries and stress can cause physical symptoms.

I do hope you can get some help and get sorted.

Katie

Hello again, Katie

Thank you for your concern, and for pointing out to me the similarities in my postings.

I saw my GP today, and as well as saying he would follow up a request for further investigations into possible gallstones, he said he really wants to get to grips with the anxiety side of my problems. He also gave me some medication for my anxiety, and said he hoped that would give me the support I needed until I can start on some CBT.

I came away feeling quite happy, and think my doctor is “on it” and doing the best he can to try a multi-platform approach to all my problems.

Once I start to get on top of things I do want to get back running,, and try to recover the stamina that enabled me to do an hour of non stop running, which I didn’t think was too bad for an ‘old man’ of 63!

Regards as ever

I didn’t know you were a runner, Graham! This changes everything 🙂 I’m a runner, sort of, and always have a few goals in mind (I’m in a club too which helps). I don’t know what level you’re at, but why not start training again tomorrow? You’ve got two weeks off. Don’t sit at home.

I’m not very good just now (at running, I mean), but started out where I could only run for about a minute, and built it up to an hour in about 8 weeks. Not bad going, huh?

You sound pretty accomplished being in a club, and I’d just joined a new right at the time that I started to feel ill just about a month ago, so my goal now is to get back in with them...

We must talk more about this one, and I’d like to know what you do...

Regards

Graham

You sound like me in that it’s easier to get motivated running in a group. This will sound more impressive than it is, but I’m in a triathlon club although my first event ever isn’t until next year. My running is fine. It’s my swimming ☹️

I find it a huge escape from the stresses of work and such things, and some of the team mates are a real inspiration as they’ve overcome a lot too.

I’m sure your running club would love to see you back this week. Go for it.

That’s very impressive about being in a Triathlon club.

The club that I’ve spent most of my time with are just 5 minutes (at most) from my door, and they taught me just about everything I know about running.

The Olympic and World Championship winning Brownlee brothers - Alastair and Jonny - are from the same club, too, and a good friend of mine is the current Yorkshire cross country champion (as well as being a cracking lad to boot).

The new club I’ve started with is more of an all-round fitness group, and they are really lovely people, but the training feels like a session with the SAS. I’ll certainly go back again once, though, I’m getting back on my feet, but it’s out of the question just now until I do.

I’m glad you mentioned the running thing to me!

Regards

Graham
