I'm so sorry for you. If he is well enough to push for referral to a proper Hepatology clinic at a Hospital a bit further away, you would both benefit immensely. You are always entitled to a second opinion
I am so sorry to hear this. I recall your husband has been very poorly for some time.
Could you contact your hospital's PALS? They have been exceptional for me in the past - I raised a concern with them on a Monday and had a letter confirming an appointment for my son that I had been told would be 8 months away by the end of the week.
Hi Dawn it is very frustrating when appointments are cancelled I do feel for you and your family, but possibly if your husband will stop drinking it may help your case 🤔. I also understand how difficult it is to stop I also had to do it . I wish you and your husband all the best, with the stopping and getting an appointment that they stick to 🤞💕💕
I was unfortunate enough to have a spell of HE but luckily I was in Kings College Hospital, and I can tell you it was the most horrible time of my life, I was rude to the nurses and my wife which I would never be to ether party’s. My wife was travelling 3/4 hours a day to see me and the nurses not only saved my life but were fantastic. This was all due to drinking, so if you’re husband ever wants to communicate I would be happy to give him the benefits of my journey, I’m 20 years of the drink and it was very difficult.just in case you’re wondering I’m not a preacher just an alcoholic that managed to give up.
Dogbot is right, he must stop drinking. If he does manage to do it then it’s likely his health will dramatically improve. Hope he gets his re appointment soon.
Unfortunately if he continues drinking there's not a lot they can do to repair his diseased body.He could see 100 Dr's a week and not one of them could make him well.
Hi Dawn, when you talk to the GP about bringing forward the referral for a liver consultant, also talk to them about a palliative care referral. If he’s not going to stop drinking, you’re going to need support at home to care for him as his health deteriorates.
PALs is a great suggestion from RugbyMama and calling the BLT helpline from User2121a.
Failing all else, write to your MP. Mine’s Matt Hancock so it really is an act of desperation!
