Blood tests after new med!!

A week ago consultant put me on a new tablet ‘Myfortic’. Before taking the new medication AST was 37 now risen to 72 bilirubin was 9 and risen to 40 now. I’m not due to see my consultant for another two months. I am disappointed with him that despite having life threatening reaction from my previous immunosuppressant. He should’ve monitored me closely, but haven’t :(

I took actions into my own hands and got the blood tests done.

You must ring his secretary straight away and tell her/him the problem. Don’t wait 2 months - unless the Consultant said the new tablets would take time to work.

(This is only from my own experience - not specific advice!)

Good luck.

Hello,

Abnormal liver function can be a side effect of this drug. Your consultant needs to be made aware of the alteration in your blood results, can you get an earlier appointment? At the very least discuss with your GP so that your liver function can be monitored to see if this is just a temporary rise or whether the results are going to get worse.

Thank you. GP surgery are being very awkward. I am having problems getting an appointment with them. Can’t even pass the receptionist. I will give them another call in the morning. Thanks again

Hi again

Why are you going to your GP? If a Consultant put you on the new tablets just get in touch with his secretary! You don’t need to go back through the GP.

Hi again Hope

I was at QEHB too 👍. But when I had a problem I made sure I went there rather than GP. It was around a 5/6 hour round trip for us but hey ho - sometimes you have to - I mean I had to because I wouldn’t have got any joy from my GPs. But Hope it works out for you! Good luck.

Oh really!! Did you contact them first? I rang the designated nurse and she was a bit upset with me. She goes, ‘ I was in clinic and you called me 4 times. I will discuss the blood tests tomorrow. It’s not urgent’. But I still felt the need share the results with her and told her that I’m worried because of the rapid change. She said she will speak to the consultant. Haven’t heard anything back today. Maybe they will contact me in the morning. I will drive up there if I have to that’s not an issue. But will need them to give me a time slot first.

Ahhh - right. To clarify. Since I had had a transplant I could contact the one of the Transplant co-ordinators if I had a problem. To be honest I think I only did this once or twice. They then would book me a slot in the next Clinic which are twice a week.

For the Derby Liver hepatologist (Derby is my “home” hospital which I now go to alternating with QEHB for clinics), I have to contact the Consultant’s secretary. I have never had to ask though to actually see the Consultant there in between clinics so don’t know if that would work, as I have only so far had to aske adminny type questions.

Definitely though nothing gets done in a hurry, or in as much as a hurry as I would have liked in an ideal world. ☹️.

Hope you get it sorted.

It’s not urgent for her. It’s not her liver. I would call again.

Too right Belgium. It’s like when I’m told by the Consultant that he doesn’t want to mask all the pain and I feel like telling him well you live with the pain then and see if you want it masking or not!
