Hi all, here's the update on my travel insurance ..I contacted Barclays today ( who I've been using for my travels for a few years, they deal with Aviva travel insurance company) After numerous questions they could not cover me for cirrhosis. So after being recommended to ( paying too much) I got a travel cover for a year starting from today, it covers my high blood pressure, cholesterol and cirrhosis at a brilliant price of £89 .. unlimited health cover, baggage £500 and cancellation of holiday £3000 . So happy holidays. Thank you all for your input on my last query. Hope this will help some of you Tina x

Travel insurance (new info)

Hi Tina, that's great news 😀, as I said I use paying too much and as long as your honest with your medical disclisures then you will be fine many thanks for the update and happy safe holidays. Linda x
Thanks Linda, i saved a fortune by putting a post on here and you giving me the info xx
hi What company is that with pls. We live in Spain last time we tried
To get cover for both of us it was 800 and no cover for any apts still waiting for diagnosis.nightmare. thx
It's a company called paying too much they take all your health details and then they get all the relevant travel companies ( like a comparison sight ) then you choose which one to go with on your preference as they all have their own different policy excess etc and cover .
Linda which insurance companies cos we’ve tried lots a can’t get better than about £550 for year policy
Off the top of my head i couldn't say as once I had been on to " Paying too much " did my own health issues its then and only then do this company search the best travel insurance companies to go with obviously it's depending on your own health that reflects the cost Even though I have cirrhosis and other issues like osteoarthritis and mild asthma I've never had a liver transplant or ever had varices or not on a transplant list so hence mine was a good price for cover I needed.
Sounds great. Which company were you recommended?
wow that’s amazing … I’ve been quoted £800 for 2 weeks in Mexico 😬😬😬 wish I had known before i booked holiday . Which company was this please
Thanks
hi could you tell me the name of travel insurance you got please
we all need to know which company please
Hi
I'm hoping to go abroad very soon and maybe relocate temporarily to Spain or Italy (had my TP July 2023. To all asking the question, thanks Millie , took me a moment, I'm hoping I won't be 'paying too much'🤔 thank you all. Gus. 😊
Hope all is well post transplant ! Yes if you go on your search engine ( Google i presume) type in ' paying too much travel insurance " and take it from there! Good luck 👍. Linda
Hi Linda, my tp in truth has been somewhat difficult, I had some complications.I got an unusual one called hemolysis afterwards- they think possibly a passenger from the donor graft but far more likely an auto immune reaction to the tp. And then neutropenia-so it was a bit of a difficult time ( the soup is good - sometimes -and the yoghurt too at the Royal Free)but nowhere near what it was like when I was close to the end with cirrhosis and HCC ! Good breakfasts - After the second or third time in the royal free I caught on that to get specially cooked breakfasts- I asked to see the dietation immediately because nearly all that was on offer was Carbohydrates -toast, cereals. Maybe also diabetes (diagnosed during my assessment) helped.
I am truly a lucky man if not a bit fatter.😅
I have this little Mantra now when I hear, see, touch or smell something new, familiar or pleasing. That is , "today is a good day", Think I got it from a film a book.- the phrase just reminds me to recognise sometimes simple enjoyments I get today that I may not have observed or got before I got sick. 😀
Hi gus I'm so sorry your transplant journey has been somewhat of a difficult time, non of us really know do we how things are going to be , but hey! Your still here to tell the story and battling on as we do , I was suffering malnutrition and lost so much weight in my early sobriety days ,im now on a pre diabetes programme as last year my self care went out the window as I cared for my sister ,trips to A,&E countless times a week ,she was placed on the cancer footpath had ct scan etc , she's been found to have health amxiey and hasn't left her house since last October as she's now got agoraphobic.. so I'm praying she comes through it all with help of therapy, I totally understand how you say the simple things in life, especially the ones that went out the window so to speak when we were at our worst suddenly become something as an enjoyment 😉.. I'm exactly the same as I treasure the small things life gives me .
Wishing you all the best gus ... Linda
Hi Linda
Three things:
Firstlya huge thank you for the time and effort you put into health unlocked platform and the support you have given/give to people (myself included) -it means a lot and hasn't gone unoticed . 😚
Secondly, I'm a bit of a digital dinosaur- when I reply to you is it public? I.e the thread?
Thirdly, why Milly ? Just being nosey ☺️
Thank you for your kind words gus ,I like to help others at any point I can as long as its something I have knowledge about , I didn't have any support myself from any medical team at first diagnosis ,I had to push to get to where I am today .OK.. when you reply to me here yes its public , if you wanted to send a private message just tap on my profile picture and you should find your able to message me without being read by other forum members .
Millie 09, ok so millie was my first cat I had in 2009 , sadly I had to have her put to sleep when she was 7yrs old due to aggressive tumour but she had a litter of kittens and I kept one of them..lottie , she's still with me at the ripe old age of 15yrs in cat ages so she's older than me now bless her.. love her to bits ❤️
Hi Linda that's brilliant news, can I ask is that worldwide or for just Europe? Regards
Tree x
It's up to you where your holiday is ,worldwide obviously it's going to cost more than what I paid for European but the website paying too much helps you along with that obviously then you decide from the list it gives you to pick the right travel company for your insurance cover 😉
Thank you, I also have just booked mine for Europe and also added my husband onto it, it's brilliant isn't it , I saw it on this site a few weeks ago , I was originally checking for worldwide and my quote was over £2000 just for me!! I have since decided that I won't be taking the trip I wanted as I'm just too worried that I may pick an unknown Virus and kick my Compensated liver cirrhosis into decompensated Cirrhosis as the trip was to Vietnam, Thailand and Laos, I'm due to see my consultant on the 28th of this month so I was going to ask him, but decided that even if he says I can go I am too nervous to go. So pleased you got the price you wanted, happy happy holidays for you 🥳🎉👌😊
That's great 👍, im sorry about your worldwide trip I've visited Thailand and the islands 5 times but that was before my cirrhosis diagnosis, although I must admit looking back all the symptoms were there whilst at that particular time .I asked my hepatologist each time if I'm safe to travel , it's the flight that's the most important, due to cabin pressure, I was told that 4hrs flight was fine for me as going canaries in June and also in March next year . I wish you all the best going forwards and hope your European holiday is good and thank you for your kind words.. Linda x
