Liver pain or no??

Hi everyone. First time posting here, hope I'm doing it right. I have been suffering with pain under my right rib for around 9 months. First gp felt the area and said she suspected of to be muscular. 3 months later I went in with shortness of breath, gp gave me antibiotics for a chest infection that I don't think I had, went to a&e where I was given an ultrasound for suspected gallstones, this cane back clear. I paid for Blood work to be done on my liver, kidneys, protein, cholesterol and vitamins, all came back as normal (green) apart from a slightly low vitamin D reading. I'm convinced after heavy drinking that it's my liver but I'm being fobbed off now. I've stopped drinking but can't shift this feeling which is causing me major health anxiety.

Hi Yooks.

When you went to the GP did you mention your drinking?

If you didn't I think it would be worth you going back and saying that although you have given up drinking now, you have drunk heavily in the past. This hopefully will open their eyes and look at your symtoms more seriously. Hopefully any effect the alcohol may have had on your liver may now slowly recover.

With a healthy diet and exercise aswell it will help to decrease the feelings of anxiety. Please keep us posted as we will help along the way if we can.

All the best

Thanks for your reply Laura. I didn't, but mainly because it was a total rush job, no one asked me any lifestyle questions. I will have to chase it up again in September as I get married in 4 weeks, move house the week after that to a new district and then I'm in Paris for my honeymoon the week after that. Hopefully I won't keel over between now and then.

in reply to

Wow lots going on then. Congratulations in advance for your wedding. Hopefully between now and then you will start to feel better. But please don't hesitate in seeing the Dr if any symtoms worsen and be sure to mention your previous drinking .

All the best

I definitely will, even if it's not my liver it still needs to be sorted. Rather annoying that a couple of normal test results can write you off by a gp and ignore the ongoing pain.

Thank you

It does amaze me how its possible to have damage but tests don't necessarily show it up.

There's not enough info out there about the damage alcohol does to our bodies. All we can do is learn from others experiences and educate ourselves on how best to look after our vital internal organs.

Update. Went back to a GP and asked to discuss my ultrasound results, shortness of breath and pain under rib. She has booked me in for a chest x-ray and has taken bloods for further liver investigation which I requested. She said she's quite sure it's not my liver. I will get to the bottom of it!!

in reply to

Great. Something is being done and all being well you will have some difinitives answers.

All the best. Please keep me updated

Yes it's a tough ome though. When I had my ultrasound I felt really REALLY swollen under my rib cage, that's when the pain had spread to the other side too. I was certain my liver and spleen were enlarged as that was the only explanation I could come up with...that and the fact that I couldn't breath. GP went through my measurements today and said nothing is showing inflammation. They checked your liver, spleen, pancreas and gallbladder. Wondering if I've just lost my mind instead?

in reply to

I dont think you've lost your mind, maybe just a little over anxious. Keep an eye on how you feel and if youve further concerns contact gp again. If there were majir problems they would have picked up on it. Just continue with healthy eating, no alcohol but plenty of exercise. It will all help you .

Oh definitely anxious. I've never been ill with stress before..never thought I'd suffer from it being of pretty strong mind...but it's definitely happening.

Calm down, chill out and just enjoy life... its too short to worry unnecessarily. Be happy. Keep smiling😀😎

Doubt it 😀 But did the doc offer thoughts on why you’re experiencing the “aches” or sensation? It’d put your mind at rest to know, but it sounds like you’ve been well and truly checked and found OK.

in reply toCocoChannel

Well I'm going for a chest x ray tomorrow on my chest as she wants to rule out infection...but I've never had an infection cause a stabbing/stitch pain. Bloods will be back in a week for liver.

Chest x ray on my chest 🙄

Im in the same boat. Been told its probably muscular, but i just cant buy that explanation. It was brought about during a 3 month drinking binge and even though ive had ultrasounds, mris and blood panels come Back perfectly healthy, the only explanation that makes sense to me in my Liver

Guess we'll have to turn yellow before anyone listens!

Haha, im hoping not for both of cases. But it is infinitely frustrating to go through this with no cause pinpointed.

I'm laying off the alcohol. Going 6 weeks then will have a couple of glasses of champagne for my wedding then I think I'm going to pack it in for good. It's done my head right in and given me a good scare. Hopefully the damage is reversible for us and all we're left with is a wake up call!

Im sure it is reversible. Im going to follow the same plan. No alcohol for a prolonged period of time. See how it feels. Congrats on your wedding, mate.

Hi

Keep on at the drs!! 5 years ago a consultant said it was muscular. Fast forward to 2016 diagnosed with nafld and then Nash. I get a lot of pain cos my liver is so enlarged it stretches the capsule around it which causes the pain. Please take care Lynne

in reply to

Hi. Did you change your lifestyle after the initial symptoms?

in reply to

Yes, started cooking everything from scratch. No procrssed food. Mine was caused by meds given to me from my drs over the years. Even though it wasn't caused by drink I still stopped anyway cos I thought it's not going to do me any good. How are you feeling today? Hope you see some improvement soon. Please take care Lynne

in reply to

I've seen an improvement since stopping drinking, hardly any pain now. Couple of times a day for a couple of seconds at the most. I'm hoping with very good blood results that it was just irritated.

in reply to

Hi

Let's hope it was just irritated. Take care Lynne
