Hi, been told I need one I in 10 days. I was told I could be sedated but even the pre day of drinking the stuff and what happens next, ie spending a long time on loo! is really freaking me out. What is it really like? nurse said its fine but they always say that!....

Well, the day before is not going to be great but the nurse is right, it’s fine. Follow all the dietary guidelines clearly and it’s probably best not to plan to be going further than your home. If you follow the advice, you will get sleep. The actual procedure for me was not too bad and doesn’t last long.

Good luck with the results,

Mark.

Hi. My hubby had 1 several years ago decided not to be sedated and really regretted it. Was sedated for the next one and said it was a walk in the park.

Try not to worry, it really isn't as bad as you think its going to be.... like most things.

The fluid you have to take is purely to empty your bowel and if you have to keep popping to the loo, that's great, its doing its job properly.😀

All the best, big hug

Laura

Hi, I’ve had two, one with sedation and one without - well gas and air but I didn’t need it. Didn’t have any pain and, for me I would always go for non sedation. With it, I found my headache went but that was it. Make sure you drink lots and follow the instructions. Try not to worry, it really isn’t that bad, speaking from someone who is always absolutely terrified! Owlie

I just had one yesterday, The prep wasnt too bad, I started to decrease fiber 4 days before then stuck to soups 3 days before then followed what they told me too do. I added crystal light lemonade to the drink

Sedation was good

All I can say is, have the sedation, lie back and enjoy the movie. Seeing what you look like on the inside is fascinating so make sure you can see the screens. From my experience you usually can, well you can if you want too of course. If not they can angle them away. There can be a bit of discomfort when they go round the two corners, other than that it's pretty painless.

The prep, most people say that's the worst bit of the colonoscopy and they are probably right. It is though perfectly bearable, just be prepared to spend a bit of time on the loo 🤣🤣. I find to make the prep a bit more palatable mix it with carbonated water and add some fizzy orange too. The St helier brand from Tesco is a good option here because it uses natural orange juice in the mix. Their lemonade is a good option too. Good luck and, errr, enjoy 😖?

No worries. You can actually have a copy of the initial report before you leave in the day. It's always worth asking for even though you'll have wait for the more detailed interpretation later.

Hi

I would definitely have sedation and wait for the report after. Good luck, I'm sure you will be fine. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx

No worries at all! I had it a few times without sedation. My last one was a few months ago, I refused sedation but I asked them to make the Gas and air ready in case if I needed it. After reaching to right corner I felt lots of pain and immediately asked for Gad and air, I used it just for right corner pain and then I stopped it. I was fine for the rest. All the best

Ahh Moviprep, the gift that keeps on giving🤣🤣🤣, Seriously though Harriet, as Mark says, once you have had all the laxative, you will be fine. I would recommend having sedation, so you will need someone to take you home afterwards. The procedure isn't too bad, just a wee bit of discomfort when they go round the corners. It's hard not to watch the movi of your colon. Try not to worry, you will be fine.

After a while the prep starts to taste awful so like others said add something to it to mask the taste.

I was on the loo about 4 hours with an involuntary waterfall flowing from my bum but was able to sleep normaly once it finished

Being a total coward I had a full anastetic, they were going top down and bottom up so I did not want to be there while they did it!

Dont tough it out, put a large print copy of war and peace in your bathroom and insist on sedation.
