My Gastroenterologist wants me to have a colonoscopy, he says he can check liver, etc at the same time. Has anybody any idea what this procedure is called? He gave it a name but as usual I was flustered and forgot.
Colonoscopy : My Gastroenterologist... - British Liver Trust
Colonoscopy
Did he say "endoscopy" or "colonoscopy"?
He can check your liver with endoscopy but he wouldn't be able to check it with a colonoscopy. He wouldn't be able to get the camera up through the small intestine.
Endoscopy looks at your upper GI tract and can get as far as the liver. Colonoscopy looks at your lower GI track but can only generally get as far as the bottom end of the small intestine.
There is of course the possibility that he may just book you in for a completely seperate ultrasound at the same time though, lol.
Sounds like both ends! What do you mean by him booking me in for US? I’ve had 2!
I was told by my consultant they can check the liver with the camera down the throat.. I've forgotten the name now. I may be wrong though!
Thank you.
It’s a pipe up your bum.
Lovely, but he did say he could check on liver at the same time.
Oh well the sooner the better, dreading it though.
Why are you dreading it?
I gag when they put lollystick on throat at docs.
Thank you for reply.
Oh I’m sure you will be fine. Just shut your eyes and think of England.
Did you have sedation?
I’ve only had a endoscopy and no I didn’t have sedation. I’m a get on with of type of person. Get in,get done, get out. Doctors prefer this approach too. They performances they have to deal with must be frustrating.
I had sedation the second time. I too struggle with the Endoscopy, felt alot better having the sedation as I have done it without. Good luck, hope all goes well for you, Take care xx
I have had Endoscopy both with and without sedation - I thoroughly recommend sedation - only downside is you can’t drive yourself home
Thank you.
I don’t have a clue. Hope it’s soon, I need answers. Hope you're feeling better. X
Sorry to hear that. My hair is falling out, bowels packed in and have phases of brain fog, it affects my eyes and I feel like I’m going to lose it. Just wonder what’s going to happen next. Have you got results of CT scan yet?
Tiredness will make you dizzy and nauseous. I wake around 4 and that’s it, another day of worry and misery. Let’s hope we have answers soon and some treatment. X
Yes, you’ve got to fight your corner, don’t take no for an answer. My GP admits she doesn’t know much about liver so I don’t bother much with her. It’s a nightmare. Hope you get some sleep tonight. Xxxxx
Mine has asked me to get colonoscopy at the same time get endoscopy
Mines a sigmoidoscopy, I don’t know how it checks the liver. Good luck with yours.
Hope you’re better today.
Bet you feel more refreshed. Hope cream works fast for you.
Bless you I had a colonoscopy as had ulcerative colitis it's the colon not full intestine was ok but uncomfy in parts but bearable don't see how can check liver with this but I'm not expert I'd like me liver checking to see if fatty 🤗💐
Thank you.
Hello there- don’t worry too much- the Drs are so expert at all scopes etc.So neither the endoscopy or Colonscopy can look at the liver/ pancreas etc but a very fancy scan bit like an MRI can. One basic type with or without contrast is called an MRCP the other May involve an additional camera into the tummy & its called ERCP (a more detailed version of the 1st. Better for wee biopsies.
If you can, think of as being better to rule out more problems🙃 All the best 😌
Thank you.
I had a colonoscopy and upper endoscopy at the same time. They just do each procedure one after the other so you don’t have to be sedated twice on separate days.
