Hi all going for the bike test tomorrow I have been told just do my best, I really hope I have a good day with my arthritis, trouble is I brought an exercise bike a couple of months ago and then the wife and I decided to move so the house had to be packed as much as possible so the bike went in the garage then I ended up in kings college so still not sure what I can do going to be interesting any body do it?π
A little bike ride π: Hi all going for... - British Liver Trust
A little bike ride π
The dreaded bike testπ¬. I thought mind went badly, but My co-ordinator told me itβs to see how well you are and if there is anything that you/they can do to do to help you! I needed to get more protein into me and try and build up my strength a bit!
Had to put on a breathing mask, which was very weird at the time! Apparently some people took photos with them onπ€£π
I must admit that Iβm worried about the bike because I have arthritis and I know itβs going to hurt but I must do my best to get on the transplant list. The doctors came in yesterday and said they had found a little furring in one of my arteries which has knocked me sideways because the wife and I have always joked about the three good things about me is my heart and lungs, and out of the blue comes this heart thing which know one has ever said before π€·π», now itβs a camera π₯ to my heart and possibly a stent they are not sure π€, but itβs worried the life out of me I now donβt know if 17 years of abstinence is enough hard work or not the decision will be made on Friday and Iβm seemingly still going home tomorrow Thursday or Friday. I will be glad to get home to see my wife and dog , find out if we are moving house next week or the week after. They are having the big meeting Friday to say yes Iβm on the list or no Iβm not π°. Sorry about ranting on just nervous well good luck all hope your all feeling well π.

Good luck with the bike test Dogbot, I am sure you will be fine, just do your very best. Wear training shoes if you have them with you, my husband went in slippers the first time and didn't find it easy but much better the next time with something proper on his feet.
I know you are worried about your heart however a stent is pretty routine and it is good they can do something about it.
Wish you all the best and can't wait to hear your good news. π
Thank you for your reply I m afraid that I only have slippers but nothing I can do about that but itβs the arthritis that worries me more . I have heard that the stent is a simple thing but when you have spent years under doctors and no one has picked it up it hits you rather hard but thank you all the same that is very nice π
I do understand your worry. I found with liver disease there seems to bring so many other issues with it. You are in the best hands and they will take care of you.
Re the bike, tell them about your arthritis when you go into the room and I am sure they will take account of that. All they are looking to see is how your lungs and heart are doing. They are not looking to see if you are an athlete π just do you best thats what they are looking for. π€
No worries! Rant awayπ
You do have a lot going on, so no doubt adding to the stress!
There were a couple of blips when I did the bike,.
Will be thinking about youπ Are you going in The Tour De France Gearπ
Stay safe.
Lesley
Yes mask was something else but they were pleased with what I done and as I thought it was my hips, knees and hands that gave out but not before I finished what they wanted π
Ha I remember having the bike test don't think I did well on it and the mask thing for ur lungs and breathing well I cudnt get the hang of that my children were laughing at me when I was doing it. Got through it though and went on 2 have transplant . Good luck.

A liver transplant is a long and complex procedure. The liver transplant assessment team have to be sure that you are both physically and mentally fit enough to endure the five-hour operation. Each operation carries its own set of challenges and risks. This can put the body under a lot of pressure.
Take for example the bowel. Here another doctor or nurse will have to hold the bowel out of the way while the surgeon works on the liver. This can cause the bowel to go into shock and sort of go to sleep. Mine took three days to wakeup.
The problem my surgeon had with my transplant was the age difference between me and my donor. I was 63 and my donor was 48. My veins were a lot thinner than that of my donors, so reconnecting all the plumbing can be extremely difficult. The surgical team never really know what there going to face until they are in there.
This is why they have to be so sure that a person is going to be fit enough to endure the procedure. This is for the benefit of the patient and the surgical team.
Other physical tests can be carried out similar to the bike test. Here you can be injected with something to cause the heart rate to increase and then be put on a treadmill. Several different tests can be run to get the same results as a bike test.
Good Luck.
Richard
Thank you for all the information thatβs interesting, bike test went well everyone was happy with it but my joints gave up before I did which they seemed pleased with π
