I requested some bloods done specifically vit d.. had results back gp says I am low in vit d but not low enough for prescription strength? Apparently I'll get a letter saying what supplement I should take.. anyway symptoms like muscle pain, bone pain, chronic fatigue, dizzyness, brain fog can be associated with this apparently so I wonder if that's why I feel so rubbish? Anyone else had vit d deficiency with symptoms?

I have low vit D the symptoms I have is the bone pain and chronic fatigue. I am getting a letter and prescription soon too. hope this helps x
The best way to get vitamin D is spending a little time in the sun each day. You can buy supplements at health food stores but taking large amounts may do more harm than good. I take 4,000 IU daily when I don't get a chance to lie in the sun for 20 mins. The quotes below are taken from the article in the link after them:
"Vitamin D Pills Are of Little or No Benefit and Some Harm. So What to Do Now?"
"According to the authors of a landmark editorial just published in the March 2, 2010 issue of the Annals of Internal Medicine, "Despite the promise for disease prevention suggested by available studies, we believe that the evidence for widespread use of high-dose vitamin D supplementation in the general population remains insufficient." Even though the supplements translate into higher levels of vitamin D in the blood, expected benefits of reductions in the occurrences of common diseases are lacking."
Contradicting the above view is a book titled 'The Vitamin D Cure' by James Dowd, M.D in which the author makes all sorts of claims as to the benefits of vitamin D. I have a copy of the book in Microsoft Word and PDF format & I started supplementing with large amounts of vitamin D capsules after reading it but I'm no longer convinced that Dowd's claims are correct. Reading his book the list of ailments that low levels of vitamin D can lead to is very long however there isn't any evidence to support that taking large amounts of the stuff does much good.
Here's a quote from the book:
"Review the following list to see if you have any of these symptoms and/or diseases:
Symptoms
• Fatigue
• Joint pain and/or swelling
• Muscle pain, cramping, and/or weakness
• Chronic pain
• Uncontrolled weight gain
• High blood pressure
• Restless sleep
• Poor concentration and memory
• Headaches
• Bowel problems (constipation, diarrhea, or both)
• Bladder problems (urgency, frequency, or both)
Diseases
• Depression, including seasonal affective disorder (SAD)
If you saw things on the preceding list that you deal with daily or weekly, get ready for some great news: all of these health problems (and many others) are related to vitamin D deficiency, and they can be helped by raising your vitamin D levels."
Hubby has issues with one of his ones since transplant & he is on once a week vit D, but some the symptoms can he cause by coming off steroids & can last up to 6 months he had been told.
If you like mushrooms stick them out in the sun before eating them as they absorb it like a sponge and we'll as yourself for 30 mins
I am already on Colicalciferol daily and weekly Alendronic acid, have been for about 5 years, I experience all your symptoms; I don't think it's specifically related to the liver, can be many things, but it certainly is with me. I think it can be more so as we get older generally. I am sure they will keep an eye on your bloods and if things get to the point where you need a prescription they will let you know. I hope the non-prescription ones work for you and you feel less fuggy and with less pain soon. I think Vit D can be promoted with sunlight, so perhaps a nice long Caribbean cruise would do the trick!! Wishing you all the best. K
If you live in the UK, you are unable to be able to get enough Vit D from being in the sun during the Winter months. If you look at the NHS website, it states that you can make Vit D from late Mar to early September from being outside, but the rest of the year you will need to get it from food. There is also information concerning supplements. I will post the link. nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-bo...
