Bars across the country promote on tv and radio advertisements Jell-O shots, 2 dollar shots, dollar beers happy hours ect. Should they be called out for their irresponsible marketing? Making a profit at the expense of young patrons on the road to future health complications.
Bar marketing: Bars across the country... - British Liver Trust
Bar marketing
Ive been saying this for years !
In the UK we have campaigns on discount booze advertising and happy hour type promotions. In Scotland our government has introduced minimum unit pricing for all alcohol. This has mainly hit the usually bargain bucket type white ciders and such like which are drunk by the young and those who sadly find themselves in the lower economic bracket.
We have forum members (some of whom are alcohol related liver disease survivors) who are active in pushing for further alcohol danger warnings on packaging and promotions.
Hi Mrslinky,
I may be in the minority, but I don't think bars should be called out for marketing.
Drinking to excess in the early days is a choice many have made, we ourselves had 2 males friends who drank as much as my husband at one point they cut way back, but encouraged him to continue. If I was going to "blame" I would point the finger at them, but not others. And I put more blame on the medical community for not being more emphatic that my husband's liver was affected and he needed to stop or die and not wait until the day he was in the hospital in liver and kidney failure at age 68 to say it. Doctors were the only people he might have paid attention to earlier.
To paraphrase a quote - "The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, But in ourselves" Julius Caesar , Act I, Scene III, Shakespeare.
Best wishes,
Mary

Like a Colossus; and we petty men
Walk under his huge legs, and peep about
To find ourselves dishonourable graves."
