After the liver cancer diagnosis and the family being told it was too far gone to operate , Nobody has been in touch with us since so what happens now?

One shot of tace is being booked for in 4 weeks time , in the meanwhile?

I dont think there is anything to be done in the meanwhile, apart from pain relief if needed. I waited about 4 weeks from diagnosis to surgery for HCC but carried on working and living life as normal til the day before surgery.

Did the surgery get rid of all the cancer?

Not a candidate for surgery

LKVVZ if you mean me, then yes a surgical resection did get rid of the cancer. Unfortunately its not always possible to do a surgical resection of liver cancer.

I think Bolly is right. You could ask for a meeting with Macmillan team who I understand are very helpful and will be familiar with practices in your hospital.

Thanks I called macmillan who gave me some advice not much we can do apart from wait.

I'm sorry to hear this. I don't know would the gp be any help. This is a bit negative but you may not be aware of hospice at home when the time comes. It's a sort of takeaway option with our local hospice.

I called Marie cure who offer a service free of charge where they send nightshift workers to watch the patient overnight while you have a sleep they don't sleep its a night job so I imagine they might watch videos with headphones in or read .

I imagine that helps significantly... a chance to sleep.

So sorry to hear this, my husband and I are in a similar position, however due to his cirrhosis, Tace was not an option either. He underwent Y90 treatment early August, and has had two CT scans since that treatment. The tumor was "dead" but they are watching it closely because there had been evidence of it invading the portal vein, which cannot be treated. He had Hep C and was treated with Sovaldi in 2014. The liver cancer was only found coincidently after he had an abdominal aortic aneurysm repaired in June 2016 and they did a CT scan in July to ensure the stent was working properly. He has no symptoms of liver disease other than fatigue. Best luck to you and your course of treatment with Tace.

How big is his tumour?

So did the Y90 treatment kill the cancer?

In July, the treated tumor was just under 6 cm. we were told that the targeted tumor was "dead" but also that the treatment is not a cure as the cancer remains; the goal of the treatment is to slow down the progression of the disease. My husband is scheduled for a follow-up CT on 2/22.
