I was summoned for yet another gastroscopy on Saturday morning ( my 3rd in 5 months) I took my completed medical questionnaire with me and gave it to the nurse. She asked me all the usual questions, checked my blood sugar and INR which were fine. I was canullated and went into theatre. Once I was on the bed the clinician explained what I needed to do and repeated the same questions including had I had previous gastric surgery. I said yes and I had listed it along with other surgeries I'd had. She went pale and skuttled out to speak to a doctor. He confirmed that it needed to be done by a gastroenterologist. I then left the theatre, had my cannula removed and went home. What a complete waste of my time, resources and money. My sister works at the hospital booking out patient clinics and has told me that this has been flagged as a serious issue and there will be an investigation as to how it went so far. I've been contacted by endoscopy today to re book the gastroscopy with my gastroenterologist who did it last time. Oddly the first gastroscopy and colonoscopy were performed by a clinician...who didn't see anything untoward but the 2nd gastroscopy showed bleeding duodenal ulcers, early varices and possible ischemia at the top of my stomach!

Hi
How frustrating for you. I remember when I went for a biopsy, I'd been there all morning and was told at 12.00 that it had been cancelled as there wasn't a bed! I went the week after , it nearly got cancelled then but they then realized I'd been cancelled the week before and so I could have it done!!! Hope you get sorted soon. Love and hugs Lynne xxxx
