Appointments cancelled - anxiety setting in

Good morning wonderful people. I hope you are all coping during these uncertain and scary times.

Predictably any non emergency appointments have been cancelled and that I understand.

However for my I was nearing what was looking like the final scope to install the last of my varices bands. As this has now been cancelled and no new appointments in sight I’m worried in case I have another bleed from a vein that I know might have been picked up as part of my ongoing procedures.

Knowing that these bleeds can be serious and potentially fatal I’m reaching out to see what extra measures I can take to help prevent another bleed.

My GP and consultant aren’t taking standard query calls otherwise I’d usually just pick up the phone.

I still haven’t touched a drop of alcohol and don’t plan to which hopefully is the main way I can prevent another bleed but I thought I’d reach out to the forum for some advice, and a bit of a moan :)

In other news, with this pandemic in full swing and mobile networks slightly flaky I’ve had to converse with the wife - I was somewhat surprised to learn she no longer works at Woolworths :)

Peace!!

Yes a lot of appointments are being cancelled I think most people are a bit disappointed but the more we take notice of the precautions the government are trying to get us to do I think the quicker we will get a grip on the virus and then get back to the nearly normal life that we lead 😃. I’m so pleased to hear that you still haven’t gone back to the alcohol stay strong everyone and we will beat anything 😀.

I think the best way to think about it is that the worst varices were probably banded first so the final ones are less likely to bleed. I have three varices but not large enough or bleeding so I haven't had banding (yet). I was put on Carvediliol once a day which lowers your blood pressure/heart rate so reduces the chances of a bleed. It might be worth discussing with your GP or consultant to see if this could help lower your risk temporarily until the banding can be finished. Take care and stay well.

Hi Xeno,

In my early days of cirrhosis, I was told to make sure I chew all food, especially crisps, thoroughly to reduce the risk of hemorrhage of the varices. After my initial banding, I was left with only small varices, which are not getting any worse.

My Hepatologist Appointment in a couple of weeks, will now be a telephone consultation, so, no chance of a second fibroscan, which I was going to ask for😥
