How was it detected, those of you with alchol induced cirrhosis

In was a heavy alcholic (30 units a day) for 4 years, sober now 15months have been suffering from steatorrhea. Had all manner of blood tests, colonoscopy, ultrasound, non contrast ct no causes. Seen a gastro but she says I didn't drink long enough and I am very young (24 when I quit) but I really believe it's my liver not producing enough bile due to damage. How was it detected? Was stetorrha anyone else's only symptom?

I fitted following that my liver failed followed by my lungs and kidneys I was put in an induced coma and cirrhosis was diagnosed following that.

I had been drinking for 25 years.

Heavy drinker for 30 years, no symptoms whatsoever.

Routine blood tests at aged 60 medical were deranged and a scan showed a grainy liver.

Fibroscan confirmed it.

By scan do you mean MRI CT or Ultra sound?

I had a decompensation event with alcoholic hepatitis, and, whadayaknow, they found I had cirrhosis too.

I'd had a few of the usual warnings over the years before that, about restraining my drinking to within the recommended limits etc. And not so long back I'd stopped entirely for the best part of 3 years. But I started again.

But the first I knew of me actually having cirrhosis was the alcoholic hepatitis, just over a year ago.

(Of course, you can have alc hep without cirrhosis, but they always check for it)

Hello, I was drinking at least a bottle of vodka day? I was working, functioning and hid my addiction extremely well . I was never wduestioned or spoken to at work. I performed and managed 19 regional staff? Then suddenly, overnight, my tummy became swollen, I was the colour of nicotine and kept falling over. My husband was in New York on a business trip. When he returned 4 days later he immediately took me to hospital and I was diagnosed,, almost immediately, with ELD (end liver disease). My MELD score predicted I woul die within 9 months? Luckily I survived and was transplanted July 2018, six months ago. I was very lucky and was clearly told that I should probably died a good few years before. I despise alcohol now and he is by biggest enemy. Apparently because I excercised and ate correctly it did help some.

Oh god that sounds awful I am so glad you got your transplant. I understand that life I am a chef I work a 10 hour shift walk out got straight to the pub sink 10 pints and go home to bed, wake up have a can of beer go lift some weights and then to work rinise and repeat it so easy to let a drinking habit get dangerous when it doesn't seem to be effecting you life and other around you are drinking hard

I got odeoma in both legs, started bruising really easily and a family member mentioned that I had a slight yellow tinge.

Also, my tolerance to alcohol became low very quickly which was handy when it came to giving up.

Have an X-ray done on your abdomen. May find a calcified pancreas. You can try pancreatin it is a digestive enzymes, if that straightens you out it is likely Exocrine Pancreatic Insufficiency. Say goodbye to booze you don’t want to get pancreatitis, you will likely feel like dying.
