Bleeding in small bowel

I spoke to the specialist nurse who gave me the capsule endoscopy today. She said that I have a lot of adhesions and some bleeding in my small bowel. She was going to go through the images with my gastroenterologist today and discuss her findings. I assume this bleeding is the cause of my anaemia. I don't know if anything can or needs to be done about it. I haven't been taking my iron tablets since before my gastroscopy and colonoscopy as I think extra iron can be bad for liver disease. Is this the case? Thanks, Deb

Hi Debs

Main thing for me is how are you, because what you write about is way out beyond my experiences...

Good luck,

Miles

Hi Miles, I'm not feeling great to be honest. Had my usual breakfast of porridge this morning and soon afterwards felt really nauseous. I had lot's of rumblings in my stomach too. I slept for about 2 hours this afternoon and everything feels like it's too much effort for me. Sorry for the moan 😢 I bet you wish you'd never asked 😄

Hey up Debs

No need whatsoever to be sorry! Sometimes you can’t tell from a post whether or not what you have been told is good or bad - well I can’t anyway.

Odd re sleep, I can’t sleep at night and fall asleep in afternoon and watching telly - which gets my wife mega cross - but I can’t help it - it just happens. Daughter says I need to do some part time (very very part time 😁) voluntary work and join the Rotary Club because “they’re all fuddy duddys like you”! Charming. Apologies to any Rotary Club members!

But if you’re not feeling well you can’t do anything can you Debs... and it’s sort of a vicious circle.

Well I do hope you feel better soon - you’re probably asleep now - I have this effect on people 😁😁

Hiya sorry to hear your news... I had bleeding in my bowels and I ended up having banding done ... Not sure if you have had this done previous?

You need the iron at the moment as you will be losing it through the bleeding so I would carry on with it until your told otherwise

Do you have black or had black stools?

I don't have varices in my esophagus but there are varices in my spleen. I haven't noticed black stools but if it's just the blood seeping it might not be enough to cause them. I can't imagine how they can stop the bleeding in the small bowel as it's so inaccessible. Any idea?

in reply toGrandmaDylan

I don’t - but you knew I’d say that eh Debs. “ I know nothing”. One for Katie or jojo (love that name!)

I can't remember lol I am sorry about that but I was rushed in the day before my wedding 5 years ago when I was basically just shitting pure black stools ... I had bleeds coming from esophagus and my bowels I was out of it and didn't even ask as all I was bothered about was if I was going to be let out to get married ... I was taken to theatre morning of my wedding day and sorted out x that's the main thing

Keep up with your iron tablets and any sign of black stools go straight to hospital

in reply tojojokarak

Jojo - jojo you mean you went to theatre and got married in same day?

Hi

Your comments re the not being bothered to do anything brought home how I felt before the transplant, and even now after over 5 years of suffering the habit is still ingrained and I have to tell myself to get up!

As Jojo said I would keep on the iron tables as that may help the fatigue, I was on and off them all the time.

Do what you body says you can do and take it easy, my thoughts are with you
