Ok so I’ve had 3 liver function tests that all came back borderline.
Gp suggested that I just stop taking my 14 year habit of omeprazol as this may be causing the elevation.
My first week was pleasantly tolerable with just a few tums during the day. Not being woken up with heartburn.
Week 2 ! In constant pain, chest, upper lower abdomen horrific heartburn, the entire week. Constant calls to gp and not at all concerned of my suffering ???Can’t eat and just drink fluids all day couldn’t stand it any longer and took an omeprazol.
Really scared now as I’ve ruined the upcoming blood test and now scared that I can’t be without this drug that maybe causing my function test to be elevated !!

Hi mojo, how come you have been on omaperazole so long? Do you have an underlying medical condition,
Has your dr done any scans etc.. to rule out gallstones at all, only the symptoms you describe are very similar to gallbladder problems.
Gallbladder trouble can raise liver readings . My sister had a high read on her liver function test, it was worse than mine and that's due to the gallbladder stones.. just a thought..Linda
The liver function did not reveal any issues with gallbladder. She thinks it’s either fatty liver or the Omeprazole.
Unfortunately I have health anxieties going back to when I was a child and am terrified of being investigated and hospitals so all these blood tests have been a massive achievement for me.
Hi mojo, oh so there's no indication to any other issues, i understand now as to why your on omaperazole, if you have health anxiety what your doing and have achieved so far is brilliant, i have anxiety i used to be on lanzaprozole but that was for a duodenal ulcer.
Try not to overthink things if you can, so you took some meds that you were told to stop, but if your pain wss unbearable with acid reflux then i would have done exactky the same as you so your not on your own .
Does the dr know about your anxiety? Have you tried CBT? I have had 3 seasons and now on my 4th session of therapy. Linda x
I'm o them as of gastric and endoscopy biopsy some ulser and gastoduoduntities spelt that wrong I had one month first with antibiotic and helibactor one week .three months later gastric and sicking blood they thought it was from brain it werent then prescribed them as of gastric me meds ain't been we'd 2yrs

Learning disability or is it
As Drs constant confusion
Literally? Literally! ...sorry pet hate re misuse of the word .
I had/have liver cancer hopefully it will be gone c.t. shows nothing present now awaiting the MRI test returns. .all takes a back seat compared to the stopping of the pain killers that were over prescribed (doctors assessment not mine) so I can't imagine the 'hell' you're going through.
MY sympathies really it must be after 14 years a very difficult time, you seem to be getting on top of it.
Surely the doctors must be able to help you with the stopping, forgive me I no little of your plight I know, nor the anything about your drug , it always amazes me that (at least with myself ) I find myself educating the G.P.s on my condition as it's I suppose specialised, then of course the specialists can't see you for mouths .
It's a bit strange that they think it's that tablet, as it's prescribed for people who have liver disease I was on it for 5-6 years and I am on it post transplant and not one GP/consultant has mentioned anything about that tablet being bad for the liver because if that was the case I doubt they would of put any of us on it
Hi jojo, I'm sorry your feeling so bad and anxious to boot. I know not everyones the same but my grandmas been on omeprazole everyday for at least 5 years, maybe even longer for a hiatus hernia. Her liver bloods are are perfect, better than mine and she's 84. I would have taken the tablet too, you obviously needed something for the heartburn/reflux. Just tell your gp pain was too bad so you had to take it. All tge best. X
Hi Stacie it's not me who is feeling bad 😊 I was responding that her GP thinks it's omeprazole that's causing her problems ... But I was on them pre and post transplant and if GP/consultant thought they were that bad most of us wouldn't be on them x
The tablet is bad for wrists hip and overuse on stomach I may got confused but I'm trying to rule out multiple things wrong with me
Omeprazole which is commonly used to treat stomach ulcers can as one of its possible side effects cause the liver to become inflamed (hepatitis). The only way to find out if it's the cause of your borderline liver function blood test results is to stop taking it and see if your blood test result goes back to normal. Omeprazole may also increase the risk of liver injury caused by acetaminophen so you should avoid taking painkillers containing acetaminophen while taking omeprazole.
I took Omeprazole for only 4 months for acid relax etc. I got very sick mostly b12 deficient. Omeprazole was created to take for 2 weeks, doctors prescribe it for way too long. I’ve been off of it fo 6 months. Feeling better and blood work better.
Yep, omeprazole should not be taken for more than 3 consecutive months. I love my PCP, but sometimes I wonder if doctors are keeping up with recommendations for some of these medications. I finally read the enclosure that comes with an Rx from the pharmacy, and was disturbed by some of the cautions about this drug. I had been taking it every day for at least 5 years, twice a day. That's the only way it had any effect. It is NOT intended as a quick fix. Even in the best of times, it could take several hours to work (for me, anyway). The best solution is to know what upsets my stomach and NOT EAT IT.
btw, it can be bought OTC as Nexium, for one example, but I don't think detailed instructions and cautions are included.
