I was diagnosed with cirrhosis two years ago during detox and then discharged. Last year I started pushing for follow-up. I saw a consultant and she said I had grade 'A' cirrhosis and I needed bloods , ultrasound and gastroscopy. Following my ultrasound last Tuesday, I arrived home to find an appointment letter for liver MRI with contrast. Does this seem ominous? Did she see something worrying on the ultrasound?

Liver M.R.I with contrast
Hi
Normally if something was found on ultra sound your consultant or GP would inform you of there concerns and tell you they want to do a MRI that’s my understanding but they could of asked for both scans at the same time but MRI appt just come through you should ask them the question to be honest, the contrast in MRI is nothing to worry about it’s just a liquid that enhances the pictures they take and it’s given towards the end of scan,if there is anything sinister going on in your liver rest assured it will be found so please try not to worry you will be in good hands.
Best of luck

Turns out I got the appointment before I got the letter from the consultant. She saw a lesion on the liver on ultrasound and wants the MRI to see what it is. Bit worrying, but hey, I wa the one that wanted my liver looked at properly...oh well, guess it's 50/50...
Yes I understand your concerns, very similar to my journey well done you for pushing for check up, am guessing you’ve read about cirrhosis and it’s possible effects it can have on your liver or been told but untill MRI is done please try to keep calm, whatever they find or not you are giving yourself the best opportunity for a good outcome.

The Mri Scan is just fine I did one end of November, related to cirrhosis. As yet they have not given either my GP or myself the results, in a couple of weeks I hv an appointment so they may tell me then. You could ask for a Fibroscan test which measures liver stiffness, my advice above all is ask for yr test results, ask for explanations of what they mean, make sure they get relayed to your GP. Keep well
Please can someone tell me what a fibro scan is
Hi Faithfull, a fibroscan is done similar to an ultrasound in that a probe is passed over the liver area and takes several readings which give an indication as to the amount of fibrosity in the liver i.e. measures thickening in the liver. From the average score (kPa) they can indicate how thick the tissue in your liver has become - no fibrosity, fibrosity, cirrhosis.
My hubby has never had one - his liver consultant has said no point as they already know he has cirrhosis.

Update, it was benign, keep the faith gang, a very tough few weeks for me, but it's always better to bite the bullet and get checked!
