Liver discomfort

Hi everyone I’m experiencing some mild pain / discomfort on my right side which I suspect is my liver having drank too much on Xmas day. I believe I do drink too much in general exceeding recommended units most weeks. Prior to this I would regularly wake at 3am after drinking feeling very restless. Apart from cutting out alcohol and other lifestyle changes is there anything I can take now which will ease the discomfort ? Thanks

Hello

Sorry to hear about the issues you're having.

A fibroscan is a pretty definite method to rule out serious liver problems .

Obviously if you have fatty liver, you might want to speak with your doctor and lose some weight if you need to.

You mention gas. That can make you feel really uncomfortable and feel pain pretty much anywhere in your abdomen, including the upper area.

That could be the cause of your pain. Worrying also makes us more susceptible to pain.

Having had the fibroscan, you can rest assured that you haven't got cirrhosis of the liver which means you can avoid it by making some changes if needed.

It's hard not to worry but you really should try to come to terms with the fact that your fibroscan proved that your liver is not damaged.

Thanks I’m not sure how easy it would be to get a fibroscan. It would put my mind at ease however.

Apart from being salt free and making sure your bowels are well free and cutting down on meats. And of course booze free. It just takes time for

Hey

The best possible recommendation I can make is stop drinking.. give your body a break and see your GP.But the trick is to stay off the alcohol when your feeling better again it could be as simple as that

Please keep us updated

Thanks everyone. I took some peppermint oil and it seems to have helped. Will be staying off booze for few days until going dry for Jan.

Good call -highly likely you’ll be feeling better after a dry month and maybe time to start thinking about lowering alcohol consumption generally otherwise you’ll get this again.

Giving some time for the liver to rest might make the pain subside. That means no alcohol for a while.

You might want to talk to your doctor and have some tests.

There's no reason why you shouldn't drink as long as you give your liver a break first and then stick to sensible levels unless you have liver disease or you have an alcohol addiction problem.

Drinking sensibly is not that hard and many people do it. I don't think that people should be told they shouldn't drink if they want to and their doctor is happy with them consuming alcohol moderately.

If your feeling pain on the right side under ribs that is where the liver certainly is. If you detox your body cut out alcohol watch your fat and cain sugar intake you should feel improved
