You would have to ask consultant to explain the numbers to you. But if you have been told you have fatty liver it is completely reversible if you stop drinking alcohol, fresh diet and plenty of exercise, it's not going to happen overnight but if you take this warning serious you will be able to turn your situation around x

The British Liver Trust repeatedly warn and advise about the use of any supplement or so called herbal remedy and many people posting have been told by their consultants to avoid totally.

Yes some people claim it's good, however, there has been no PROVEN scientific study to say that it's safe, has beneficial properties or other wise so it is best to avoid.

Everything you ingest has to be processed by your liver so don't stress it more than it already is. ALSO some of the milk thistle remedies sold in the UK have the milk thistle in an alcohol based solution.

You'll probably find that one of the BLT moderators pop on here shortly to issue the same advice.

Hi Gaz,

Welcome to the forum.

As the others have already said , it would be advisable to get interpretation of your fibroscan results from your own doctors. It may also be appropriate to get referred to a liver specialist for more investigation, diagnosis, if appropriate, and guidance.

With regards to diet, here is the link to our publication 'Diet and liver disease'

Please note that this is general information, There are some special considerations that people with liver disease may need to make in their diet to stay nutritionally well and to help to manage their condition. Some of these are specific to certain liver diseases, others relate to how advanced the liver disease is.

It would therefore be advisable to obtain specialist dietary advice from your liver specialist in the first instance.

With regards to your milk thistle query, Milk-thistle (also known as Silybum marianum) is an over-the-counter supplement, which some people believe can be beneficial to people with liver disease. Some laboratory studies have shown the herbs active components (silymarin) have a positive effect on liver cells. However, milk-thistle is not licensed as a medicine and so studies into its effectiveness in the body have been limited, with conflicting results. There is not currently enough evidence to prove or disprove any beneficial effects on the liver. Milk-thistle may lower blood sugar levels and people with diabetes or hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) should use caution. If you are thinking of using milk-thistle, it is a good idea to discuss this with your doctor.
