Liver Ultrasound scan results.

Hi everyone,

I recently had results back from an Ultrasound scan made because of elevated liver enzymes. The report said Coarse, dense echotexture indicative of fatty infiltration, but all other organs had normal appearence and no intra-hepatic duct dialtion, nor solid focal liver.

I am trying to work out whether this is suggesting I have a fatty liver? As I haven't heard from my Doctor about the results yet and I am a bit frightened as I am 27 and suffer from anxiety.

You have had the first round of liver tests.Your Dr should explain them to you.

From what you say your Dr should refer you to a specialist who will probably order a few more tests.

Definitely have your dr explain your results. Sounds as though it’s fatty liver, check with your dr first thing Monday to get better explanation

Bad news - You need a doctor to go over this with you.

Good news - It's probably something called fatty liver which for the majority of people your age can be eliminated with a healthy lifestyle. Little or no alcohol and a better diet (no junk food or very little of it).

There are plenty of things on the internet to read about "fatty liver recovery" which should calm you down before your visit.

Take it easy, no drinking or bad eating for a year or two and you should be good to go! But that is me a non-doctor talking, always listen to a professional, not an internet poster like me. Good luck, you should be fine and do not need to panic at all at this time!

Hi everyone, thanks for your comments. I was worrying a bit because I had seen stuff online stating that Coarseness mean't Cirrhosis, but I have seen other comments with similar statements from their Ultrasounds where it is actually just an observation and doesn't mean that. Someone also stated not to worry on another forum, as they haven't directly mentioned Cirrhosis and that fatty liver can show up as coarse, but further tests may be needed as they did mention it was a difficult scan, but still good enough for diagnostic, so they could have just been talking about a specific area (BMI of 42 as well doesn't help too much apparently).

Don’t Google anything. Most of it is not accurate and everyone is different.

Update: Doctor phoned up, and it is fatty liver. She said she had double checked what they mean't by coarseness and the person who reviewed the scan basically mean't some fatty deposits could be seen and that was all and everything else looked normal. Going to have another check up in six months but for the meantime to follow the usual advice of no alchohol and to sort out my diet etc 👍
