Liver enzymes

I have recently had a liver test the test was for the enzymes affected by alcohol and the level was 124, my doctor has said to stop drinking and he will retest in a month. Will this level go down if I don't drink? Will I need a scan to show how damaged my liver is?

Hiya I've been having up and down readings off LFT for a year now without knowing what enzymes are up I can't really comment but what I will say is alcohol does cause liver enzymes to go up you could have some fat on your liver that causes liver enzymes to go up to GP will just monitor your liver function every couple of months unfortunately for me I don't drink and after a year are not having normal readings so now they are looking at Autoimmune disease your readings seem quite low mine are in the nearly 500 range my advice would be listen to your doctor try not to drink and wait for your next liver function test try not to worry hope it's helped a little Marie x

Hiya thanku for ur comment, I don't drink loads but have stopped since dr told me about my levels, I didn't realise the levels could go that high, you have made me feel a bit better, there is a lot more to this, but I'm so worried that my liver is permanently damaged. Thank you very much Marie x

The liver is a amazing organ huni it fixes repairs itself and you can live with only a very small amount the liver is your body's filter everything you eat and drink will filter through your liver drinking and taking drugs even prescription drugs can damage your liver your enzymes relatively low I would imagine after stopping drinking they will go back to normal I dnt drink but took a lot of meds because I get lots of pain I had to come off absolutely everything to see if that was what was causing my enzymes to be high unfortunately for me after doing that my enzymes continued to climb higher so it's not medication or drink for me your doctors will keep a eye and monitor your enzymes try not to worry keep me posted x

My doctor says I don't have hepatitis or diabetes. .my fibroscan showed that I have stage 3 and she says it is reversible. ..it is scary because my last test results came back normal and now 3 months later my enzymes have crept back up..she still says they are fine and not to worry..that is easier said then done...I hope that all of your test results come back OK
