at qe hospital do most people do a treadmill test or just a breath test like an asthma check... going for my first part next week. cazer
part 1 assessment : at qe hospital do... - British Liver Trust
part 1 assessment
I assume you are starting a transplant assesment, I have done two assesments and and never done a treadmill on any of them..
Hi, when I had my assessment I had to go that cycle thing. Hope all goes well for you.
was that Queen Elizabeth?
My assesment was at Kings College, was all very thourgh but everyone treated me so well and kept me so well informed about everything which really helped the anxiety side of things. I am eleven months post transplant now.
congratulations hope you are doing okay it seems to be a very mixed bag of how people are afterwards... have you been left with bad fatigue? cazer
nothing at all like before, I do try and walk at least about a mile a day and sometimes about three miles,I was advised before the transplant to try and climb stairs to help my fitness and breathing so as to be as fit as possible for transplant which I made sure I did and it really did help me. I do so hope all goes very well for you.
i have pbc and they keep reiterating how op won't probably help fatigue but if I've got an undamaged liver then I can't see how it won't be like early pbc... I had tummy troubles and total intolerance to any alcohol approx 28 yrs ago before I knew i had it so im hoping that if it is anything better than that I will have gained and being alive would be a bonus... haha.... no offence meant but know that I have to have it done to survive. xxcazer
how many times did you do stairs in a day ?
before transplant I was very weak and suffered bad with HE amongst other things. was very lucky that a friend would tolerate me and would go out with me for walks every day and every third day take me down by sea front to climb stairs to top of cliffs. at first I could only manage about ten steps and then had to rest but by end of a few months I could do right to the top in one go but it was a struggle,[122 step] other thing I did was never take a lift always used the stairs, but it was puffing and panting but made my self.
assuming from the name that was qe. ha ha.... im a brummi too but only one year my parents moved us to Somerset when i was1. still visited grandparents up to when they moved down as well. thats reassuring as betablockers for varices make me out of breath. thanks cazer
also have clinic appointment same day and one of appt told me to keep it but I can't see how that will work as its afull day of tests from what I can gather... think i might ring consults sec as they are most switched on.... cant see how I will have time to get from one to another any ideas. p. s. how are you doing after txp? best wishes cazer.
I had my transplant at the QE and no I didn't do treadmill (thank goodness!). It's a long couple of days but they look after you. Good luck
I was assessed at Leeds they do a by bike test I however wasn't asked to do one. I had a breathing test though. I'm not very fit at all and have asthma but I past lol. Good luck.
thanks all for all your reassuring comments. xcazer.
Hi I'm also at qe today for lung transplant assessment as they couldn't do me a liver as lungs are damaged hoping for liver and lung transplant however I did do the treadmill last October it's not hard it's uncomfortable with that mask over your mouth but as long as lungs are ok you will be fine. Good luck
I don't know to be honest. Could have been didn't think to ask. You will be absolutely fine x
Good morning,
At my transplant centre following all the usual assessment tests were finished I had to go back for a repeat of the echocardiogram. This is to check that the heart is working well enough to withstand the trauma of the transplant surgery.
The difference was, this echocardiogram was a 'stress echocardiogram.' Because I had type two diabetes, it was decided to stress the heart to see if under the burden of exercise, it still functioned well.
This is where the treadmill came into play. I had to run on the machine to the point of exhaustion. Not my best day. Another method is to introduce an intravenous medication which increases the heart rate artificially.
Eleven months post transplant I can now play table tennis non stop for almost two hours and this afternoon I've got a gym session booked. I know others on here who are far more active post transplant. Ten minutes on the treadmill now seems a small price to pay for a new life.
Jim
for me it was a bike, nice and steady and then push a little towards the end, lasted about 10-15 mins....Good luck x
Hi it's breathe test to check your lung capacity
thanks all for info and bedt wishes to all those that are in the same situ as me. much love cazer. xx
Hello,
I went with my mum when she had her assessment at QE last May. She didn't have to get on a treadmill or a bike, just blew into a tube thing.
Claire
Hi there how did you get on today .
hi I am on the list for a new liver at the QE
I had to do the treadmill but failed to get the heart pumping enough so had the injection
I was hard work especially when it was set to be uphill
Any way good luck I will keep and eye open for you
David

Hi cazer well I did walking for 6 mins then had a right heart catheter which I didn't like then saw my lung consultant but it felt surreal it's like there talking about someone else, got counselling talk today but I don't even know what to ask all I know is I want to live but it's impossible for that to be answered xx
