If he is in for assessment, be prepared for waiting around, I was in for 3 days when I had mine. Just think of it as a top to toe check over, nothing particularly bad, arterial blood gas test isn’t that pleasant, but the rest is pretty straight forward. There are a few detailed guides to assessment tests and peoples experience.

What happens with the arterial blood test please

Hi, the arterial blood test is just a blood test that is taken from your wrist it is a tad unpleasant, but just a blood test so don’t worry, 🌸

Hi,

We have both had arterial blood taken, mine in the pre transplant assessment and Lucy a few times when quite ill with pneumonia.

Have to confess that I wasn't looking forward to it, but as it turned out, it was fine. With a surface anaesthetic it just felt like someone pushing hard on the inner side of my wrist. Differently to a normal blood sample being taken, In order to get an arterial blood, the needle has to go quite deep and a bit of effort is required from the doctor taking the sample.

If you are anxious, just make sure that they are aware and they will take time to make sure you are completely relaxed and ready for the procedure. Having someone holding your hand and talking to distract can also go a long way to making it less stressful.

Hope the whole assessment goes well and you get the result that you want.

The appt is 1 week today, 16th.

I think it's just an initial meeting to see if he's suitable for full 2 day assessment. It's going to be a long wait!
