Hi-

Have you been told you have damage from drinking...any symptoms...or lab work that would indicate that you may have some damage from drinking?

If your liver function tests are normal and there are no other symptoms or diagnosis then you could definitely heal any damage. A lot of damage to the liver caused by alcohol can be reversed by stopping drinking. I'm not a doctor of course, but from my personal experience and from what my doctors have told me the liver does and can regenerate itself. It can be a very forgiving organ to a point. I always tell my friends though, who ask me; if you're concerned about your health for any reason due to alcohol consumption then it's probably a good idea to stop altogether or take a long break to allow your body heal.

I have a history of binge drinking and started having upper right abdominal pain about a year ago. All my liver function tests were normal as was all my blood work. However, I continued to drink even though I knew instinctively that I had done some damage. Fast forward six months and sure enough my second ultrasound came back showing an enlarged fatty liver. Still all my blood work including LFT's came back normal. I haven't had any alcohol for six months now and have been told that even a fatty liver caused from alcohol can heal from stopping drinking. I have cut out sugar from my diet, exercise and eat pretty healthy. I am scheduled for a Fibroscan on the 24th of this month and will find out if I have developed any Fibrosis and if I still have fat in my liver. I will be sure to keep everyone updated on my results so that others may learn from my experiences.

If you feel you have caused some damage to your liver from alcohol I would trust your feeling and take a good break. Only you really know how much alcohol you've been having and if you feel differently physically because of it and yes if you stop drinking you can reverse damage (if you have any) done to your liver. I hope this helps you and wish you all the luck.

Red Red Wine!

stay close to me

don't let me be alone

It's tearin apart

my blue, blue heart!

I expect i'll get told off by administration for this but i couldnt help it as the title of your post prompted this melody in my head! I think you know what i'm on about!

I wouldn't have posted this reply if you were in trouble but as you have stopped drinking the red wine or any other alcohol you will be fine and just as Wendy said!

Good Luck ~

I am a Cider Drinker,

I drinks it all of the day,

I am a Cider Drinker,

it soothes all me troubles away,

Ooh arrh, ooh arrh ay, Ooh arrh, ooh arrh ay

Sorry couldn't resist either!

No disrespect to OP intended.

As others heve said normal LFT's is a great sign. Stay off the booze and you'll probably feel much less anxious as well.

Ooh arrh ooh arrh ay!

Just got to laugh! I can hear the 'accent' of it as well! Thank you for that laugh, it's got to be the first time I have laughed whilst reading something on this forum!

Im Dorset born and bred. It's literally our national anthem. The lyrics are so inappropriate, they don't make them like that any more! Thank God

Yes; good advice given; take care .

It would be a good idea to stop. Advice currently is for no more than 21 units per week, which is not a lot, really, and even a glass a day could take you over that. The challenge is that both alcohol and its associations can be addictive so look for changes in routine - even substituting one behaviour for another. When I stopped drinking last time (2nd Jan 2011) I started doing an exercise circuit - something I still do.

Now reduced to 14 units.

I drank 2 bottles of red wine a night for 6 years and my liver was ok. I'd stop now b4 any damage is done. The red wine turned into vodka and now I have chronic liver disease.

hi,

well you may have done some damage to your wallet and possibly your waistline but its not clear you've done any damage to your liver...yet!

All depends on how much red wine daily? a couple of small glasses-damage unlikely. A bottle a day...hmmmm.

By way of comparison, I'd been drinking the best part of a bottle of wine per day for over 30 years and certainly had fatty liver which showed up as elevated GGT levels. Did you get those checked? My LFT tests were always normal. I also had symptoms-digestive issues/ occasional panic attacks-my GGT levels were over 180.

Can you reverse this? Yes-all depends on other things like weight, age etc. If you stick to the new govt guidelines of 14 units per week-that's a medium glass of wine per day you are unlikely to develop any issues although I would advocate as the docs do a few alcohol free days per week. If you're worried I suspect you'd been doing more than that in which case for peace of mind then moderate.

best

Hi bluemoon. I lived in Italy for 30 years and a lot of people had one glass of wine with their meals everyday. This, apparently, was good for them. But once you start drinking loads of the stuff, red, rosè or white be it, then there will probaby be consequences. I was advised myself to get a liver test because my blood test results always come back excellent. Best of luck. Honey
