Unfortunately there is no one test that will conclude the reason behind the Budd-Chiari syndrome, this is because there can be many cause’s including; genetic or other causes for the blood clotting too easily, having a tumour, or chronic inflammatory disease such as IBS, pregnancy or a high dose of oestrogen from using an oral contraception. The doctors will have to do some further investigations to find the cause.
The treatment options will depend on the cause but its aim will be to keep your liver function stable and maintain the blood flow through the liver.
