any one know a travel insurance that covers cirrhosis?
Hi Ireland.
This Q. was last asked in April.
This was one reply that sounded useful:
" My name is Rachel & I work for Free Spirit Travel Insurance. We were the first travel insurance scheme of its type and we are one of the UK's largest specialist travel insurance providers for clients with medical conditions or disabilities.
We have no upper age limit on single trip or Multi trip policies and we will endeavour to cover the majority of medical conditions including the conditions you are requiring cover for.
We have a UK based specialist customer service team that are on hand to help you by telephone 0845 230 5000 or you can buy online and save £10 at freespirittravelinsurance.com...
If you would like to call us or go online, we will endeavour to provide you with the peace of mind insurance cover you are looking for.
I hope this information has been useful to you.
Kind regards
Rachel"
Also Sandy Forsyth at the British Liver Trust recommends emailing the Trust for their information on travel insurance.
Hope this helps, Bolly
Hi there
I just used medic travel for my daughter who has AIH and cirrhosis! Search Medic in google - very reasonable.
Hope you are successful
hi there mumzymum hope you dont think im being nosey but does your daughter has those varcies?? and i wil try these thanks a million.
Yes she did have varices but they are now obliterated! However, they were the only company not to ask about varices on the quote!
Had to read your reply twice Lols
oops lol i attend to babble on lol.. its an english insurance though so i dont know will they insure me but i have sent them and email
is it medici travel??
Hello,
I have AIH with cirrhosis and varices (though they haven't needed any treatment). I somehow managed to get multi trip insurance for worldwide travel including winter sports through 'Cover for You'. It was exceptionally well priced, especially given that I have previously had quotes that have cost more than the holiday!
their site is coverforyou.co.uk and I found them through a tesco insurance search.
Hope this helps
Jen
hi jen thanks all these are great answers only that there all based in the uk which wont cover people from the republic thanks anyway
Oops, addressed previous reply to Jen instead of Ireland by mistake:
Have you tried justcover.ie/
they have a clickable button for "if you wish to cover a pre-existing medical condition - click here'
yes bolly I have no luck either im not sure what im going to do my tickets booked and everything and I might have to cancel it and wont get my money back I reall thought it wasn't going to be this impossible to get insurance :/
so ya went on to just cover.ie and it led me on to all clear. 1300 they wanted that's just crazy like really is this how much we have to pay to go anywhere. im so frustrated now that im just depressing myself was so looking forward to seeing my sister who has been in the states for a year now sometimes I think my life can not get any worst!!! sometimes I think why the hell me. sorry for the rant!!
to ireland123; I use BUPA travel insurance and they are fantastic...you must tell any insurance company all your health diagnosis (I have HCV for years Fibroscan shows 10-not being treated) and make sure they put it in writing as part of your coverage with underwriters. They will want to know if you are being treated, etc - answer all questions truthfully as once you are in States if any problems arise regarding your condition will be costly otherwise. My annual policy cost me under £300 which includes the USA. I had an accident while in USA and BUPA could not do enough for me. Make sure you have all the info they give you when traveling so you can call them to make sure they give you hospital they approve nearest you. The hospital I attended was like a 5 star hotel. Obviously, this costs more money. You can travel with HCV but there are certain states in USA that have HepB outbreaks so look this up before traveling and get immunised. Hope this helps.
Have just discovered an excellent booklet Called 'Getting Travel Insurance' by MacMillan Cancer Support. Try to get hold of a copy of this. Hopefully in the near future the Liver Trust could produce a near identical example of this as 90% of the work has been done for them - I am sure MacMillan would be happy to co-operate re plagiarism
Morning,
I have checked our policy and I am sorry but we are unable to assist you as you do not reside in the UK. However, I am familiar with most policies and the majority of companies will require you to be a UK resident.
What I could suggest though is that you contact an insurance broker locally to you and they may know of an Irish insurer that may be able to help. You can find details of insurance brokers in ireland at the following: iba.ie/index.php?option=com...
I hope this information will assist you.
Regards
Rachel (Free Spirit)
