I should have realised from the frost on the car this morning that it'd be chilly outside but by the time I was ready to run the sun was shining. Decided that gloves, hat, jumper etc wouldn't be necessary and Mr Y and I set off in just long sleeved t shirts and light running trousers/leggings.
Yes, it was lovely in the sunshine but we hadn't reckoned with a chilly and brisk north easterly wind. My hands were freezing and even Mr Y was complaining about it and he never complains about the cold. The options were turn back and dress warm, or start the run early and warm up that way, or just carry on whinging and do our normal run. We chose option 3.
About half a km into the run my hands had just about defrosted so I told him (and probably myself too) that if I'd been wearing all that extra stuff I'd have just been taking it off by this point.
We turned a corner and the rest of the run was going southwards then westwards so the wind chill dropped dramatically. The cold obviously put a spring in my step as I found I'd run my fastest (just over) 3k in a very long time - 8'11, 8'09", 8'02" and 0.13km at 7'57. Negative splits too I suppose that running faster is one way to to keep warm
For the record, Garmin said the temperature was 3C, NRC says 4C (without the wind chill) 🕸🥶
