Hello Everyone. Today is parkrun day, a free 5K event which takes place every Saturday morning all around the world. It is for everyone, slow, fast, able, disabled, big, small and everyone in between. Oh and don't forget about the super Mum's and Dad's who push their babies in buggies. You can walk, jog, run, run/walk, it's not a race, just a run in the park and loads of us here on Bridge to 10K do it religiously every Saturday morning.
Some of us may not be able to do a parkrun at the moment so until parkrun returns fully for everyone some of us will continue to take part on our own in a Virtual parkrun every Saturday morning called a (not)parkrun. Or if you are away on Holidays, prefer to run on your own, or do not have a parkrun close by you a (not)parkrun is perfect, please feel free to join in. Please post a little run report after your parkrun or (not)parkrun and let everyone know how you got on. The little run report can be done over a post parkrun coffee and treat/cake. (parkrun is all about the after run coffee and cake, and meeting friends old and new).
If you are a new graduate and would like to start, all you have to do is run, walk or jog at a parkrun or a 5K run/jog/walk (not)parkrun anytime today or tomorrow and write a little run report under this post. It's like a little community and it is good fun, sets you up nicely for the weekend. If you want to you can register on the parkrun website and you can log your 5K (not)parkrun. In fact you can log any 5K done during the week as a (not)parkrun.
For anyone whom has not done a real parkrun yet and if it is available to you, give it a try. It is the most wonderful community event. Saturday mornings will never be the same again.
Looking forward to hearing from all of you who ran in real proper parkruns and (not)parkruns. Happy running and have a lovely weekend.

Good morning Damien, I was going to go to Drumpellier parkrun this morning but because of ice, both Drumpellier and Dunfermline parkrun were cancelled, instead I ran a short 3K very carefully in the park nearby to where I live, I got back home and ate a ice cream swirl.Yesterday I watched on YouTube people doing press ups, around 150 in less than 25 minutes, so later this morning I ll see how many I can do in that time.
Hi Dexy5 , I managed 150 in 28 minutes, there were breaks of about 90 seconds and 10 every two minutes, I quite like pushups as part of my exercise routine.
After last week’s cancellations it was nice to have options today.
I decided to go as far as I could depending on how early I woke up. I woke up early enough to go to Foots Cray Meadows parkrun which is set in a trail park in South East London. Lovely small event with an average 50 runners each week, with only around 35 today.
Friendly volunteers on a lovely country setting. Ideal for a grey morning.
Haven’t posted in a while, crazy Saturday schedules, lots has happened since regularly posting. I’ve done 10ks, a half marathon at Windsor, become an official parkrun obsessive -doing 50 in a year, and huge news, I’ve been entered into the TCS London Marathon.
My times have slowed can’t get faster than a 31min for a parkrun, been a bit stressed with personal life so have been eating lots so have put on a good bit of weight. But with marathon to aim, hopefully things that front improve.
Wow well done to you on all your running this year. Congratulations on becoming a parkrun obsessive with your 50 parkruns in a year. I’ll hopefully get there myself on Christmas morning.
Afternoon all, got all set to attend Parkrun today, even dug my Parkrun id bracelet out and put it on! Got out the door and bottled it a bit and went running on my own, despite actually feeling like a runner again I don't think my brains ready for running in groups yet.
Anyway I managed a steady and uneventful 5k (not)Parkrun in 28 minutes!
The first one is the hardest Jericho2332 . Once you get there you will find out how friendly and how much fun it is. No rush though. Sometimes people find it easier to watch or volunteer first, just to find out how it all works.
If you’ve got any questions, just fire them on here and us parkrun addicts will help.
Hi damienair and running friends, I completed my local Parkrun this morning in just over 37 minutes in cloudy conditions but very little breeze, which made a nice change from the recent storms!
I’m hoping my fitness has turned a corner and will continue to improve now that I’m able to run regularly again without stopping or walking. I do need to be mindful of last year’s cardiac issues though, and take things slowly and steadily.
I won’t be doing Parkrun next weekend as I’ll be away for a Christmas meal with friends, but I should be back on Christmas Day. Tomorrow I’m volunteering at my local Junior Parkrun, which will be our 300th event! 🥳
Thanks Dexy5 yes, couldn’t have asked for better conditions, really. Hope we don’t get a really cold or very wet winter - it’s so difficult to keep motivated when it’s horrible day after day 😒
I did parkrun this morning at my local parkrun. It was a cold morning with overnight frost. But it was beautiful and calm. I met some friends last night for a few drinks in Dublin, I wasn’t well rested or hydrated. This morning I had a Garmin Training session which I incorporated into my parkrun. The training session was a 2 minute warmup followed by 1K @ 6 min/km pace, 2K @ 5 min/km pace, 1K @ 6 min/km pace and 2 minutes cool down. After the training session I still had about 400 meters left to get to the finish line. My finish time for the training was 25:54, however my parkrun finish time was 33:04 due to having to make a toilet pitstop after the first lap. Happy running everyone.
Hello damienair , it was a grey, cool morning, just perfect for runnning. I, like many others, wore my Great South Run T-shirt which arrived in the post last week. I am getting further up my age group now and the younger runners are coming in with times I’ve never achieved, so I was 5th out of 9 with a time of 34:59 (Garmin 34:32). I am happy with an age grade score of 60.65% considering I took a few walking breaks. I sprinted in a 5:10 pace which was fun for me and the person I was chasing. We had the same time but she crossed a nano- second before me.
Next week we’ll all be in Christmas gear, but the parkrun bears have got there first.
Have a great weekend everyone.
PS , Oldgirlruns and I went to breakfast after. French toast with blackberries and mascarpone!
Back to Portsmouth Lakeside this morning after an enforced break last week due to a lower abdomen strain. It had improved by this week, with no problems walking, but still a little uncomfortable when running. So I didn't try to push it and had a steady run finishing in 31.58. It was our festive parkrun this morning complete with the usual amazing outfits and despite my usual fancy dress reluctance, I did manage to don a Santa hat (no photographic evidence I'm afraid Dexy5 !).
However this morning was notable for another reason - the first finisher broke the women's course record of 17.07 (which had stood since the 7th event) by one second! She was really flying, apparently she is a 2.29 marathoner and her age grade this morning was 86.74% - whew!
Well done for holding back to avoid further strain JonathanP , I’m so glad you found a Santa hat for the occasion. 🎅🏻 we will convert you eventually. 😂
Absolutely no way I was doing any running last Saturday in Wales, but my usual parkrun venue back in Manchester was one of the few that remained open.
Very chilly morning. I was delayed by finding the car windscreen frosted over, so I scraped in to the park just as the Run Director was finishing his spiel. That fellow is noted for wearing shorts in all weathers, yet today he was in trousers.
Anyway, I started slow, from the back of the pack as I usually do. I started out next to one of the regulars but gradually she peeled off ahead, practising her high cadence running. Her husband was at one of the corners and laid down the challenge to catch her up. No need. From past experience she starts off fast and then fades about half way through.
At one point we got showered by thawing dew falling from tree branches.
I eventually caught her up and ran a few steps behind her for half a lap, leading to more leg pulls from her husband. As we went into the final lap I passed her and stayed ahead until the end.
I then kept a consistent distance behind another lady who did the same as me in gently accelerating towards the finish line, with four seconds separating us at the end. And the other lady? She was only twenty seconds after me. I congratulated her on that. We've both gone faster but not in recent months.
Once I was scanned in I had a chat with a few others until I started feeling the chill, so headed to the car to get towelled off and to put a jacket on.
Official time was 31:33, my fastest time since June, 28 out of 60 runners.
Hi Damien and all VRBs! Today I ran with my pal Maggie and a few from Ventnor Sloggers run group for her 400th parkrun! 😊we kept a good pace and it was my 2nd fastest this year!
They did a finish tunnel for her at the end, good fun! 😊🏃♀️💪⭐
Well! at last, I've managed to get a parkrun done, I did a 5k run on Friday afternoon plus a fairly heavy swim session in the evening so wasn't sure if I was even going to be capable of running today. Typically I woke up late but felt good so got a shift on and made it to the start line, I even had time to warm up 😁 There were 64 runners today which I think is a normal number for Ystalyfera these days the weather was cold and a bit wet underfoot but not raining. I've been running slightly longer distances recently and on fairly rough, hilly ground so my pacing is a bit off for running 5k on flat ground, I did find the run fairly hard work after Friday's efforts and my legs felt a bit heavy, I may of started off a bit quick, but after a few hundred meters I found a pace I was comfortable with and just kept on plodding away, I finished the run in 23rd place and 3rd in my age group in 26.19 which I was pleasantly surprised with, to be honest my legs are really stiff right now and it won't be easy coming downstairs in the morning, but that's all part of fun, right🤣🤣🤣
Fantastic finish time and very well done. That’s brilliant. Happy Christmas to you too. I need a Y for my Alphabet Challenge. I need to make a trip to the UK next year to get my Y.
Went to my local parkrun Shroggs Park and we'll shouldn't have nothing against parkrun but I don't help myself. Sometimes you have to listen to your body and this morning I didn't
Well done on your parkrun. I was out on Friday night with Friends and I over did it with the old drinky poo’s despite promising myself that I wouldn’t. Anyway, my Garmin watch was giving out to me on Saturday morning. I didn’t listen to my body or my watch and did parkrun anyway. 😁🍻
I’ve just spotted your photo shows the Australian parkrun travelling boomerang damienair . We had one arrive at Southsea today and it’s now on its way to Wales. I think there about 6 of them going round the world.
The boomerang is passed on by our Run Director at Southsea
Yes, one of the Boomerang's was handed out at a parkrun in the Netherlands which I visited with my parkrun friends. The lady who handed it out was from Australia and was from the parkrun which started this great journey. The idea is that the boomerangs 🪃 travel around the world and make their way back to their home parkrun. The journey is followed on Facebook I believe.
Well done on your parkrun. You can’t get a PB every week. 😁 I’m a long way off my best at the moment but steadily building back up to try and get there again.
Back to University Parks parkrun on the Saturday to help with Pre-even Setup and Course Check. Also the start of my journey back to running. Physio gave the go-ahead to start some intervals - 1 min run with 2 min walk and all went well!!
Spent Sunday morning at the Pinner Village Garden's parkrun junior volunteering for some great kids!!
