A (hot) chilled 3 miles…is this really October?!

Is something wrong with my calendar? Can one confirm it is in fact October 22nd today? What’s going on with the blue skies and the heat…and why on earth wasn’t it like this on Sunday morning?!!

For anyone who doesn’t browse the lovely Fun Beyond 10k and Race Support board, I ran a 10k race this weekend in what can best be described as “biblical rain conditions”. One of the toughest runs I’ve ever done (you can count the uses of “tough” in my run report here….healthunlocked.com/marathon... ). Absolutely brilliant looking back but at the time? Wow. Rest day yesterday!! Today, it felt like time for a gentle run.

4pm is not my preferred time for a run but it was when I was free so off I went after a very long dilemma about what to wear. I settled on capri leggings and a t shirt. I wish I’d worn sunglasses!! My favourite trainers were still disgustingly wet and stinky from the weekend so number 2 pair came out. Having a couple of pairs is so good through the winter when it’s hard to get them dry.

This was just one of those nothing special, everyday type runs. I started at the begiing and ran until the end. I was listening to a podcast so I didn’t pay that much attention to the run. Different bits of me ached a bit at different times. Pretty normal for the first one post race. Nothing worse than “I really ran hard on Sunday” type grumbles. I was super sweaty by the time I got back. I wonder how long this will last. I’ve run through all four seasons but I don’t remember ever having so many seasons over the course of a week!!

I’m currently in the early stages of a new training plan. This week the runs will be 4, 3 and 7 miles. I like plans like this-the Magic Plan is the same. Some people stick to the days and order rigidly but I love starting with the option to do one of a few distances. Today, I started thinking probably 4 miles but it was pretty clear that when I’d been running for fifteen minutes, I wanted that to be my halfway point and I turned round for home. Luckily, that would shake out to roughly three miles with a little bit of running back and forth on the street if needed! As it was, I was really smug about having judged it right to hit my door at 3 miles and then do a cool down walk to the local shop for coffee. Perfect!

When I got back. I did a quick resistance band based strength work out. I’m aiming for longer runs than I’ve done before and k know strength will keep my IT band happy. Once that was done, bath and enjoy the coffee.

So all in all, a really nice run. Anyone else been enjoying the weather?

That looks lovely and yay 😁 a good run. No it was grey all-day here on the east coast, and I'm resting, (that's another word for being lazy) 🤣Actually I think the sun shone this morning.....so I rested in the conservatory which gets morning sun and warmed up nicely.

Oh that sounds heavenly and much needed! I like to frame “rest” as “recovery” because my silly brain likes it better that way!!

Jedi says "May the Force be with you" SueAppleRun .

(He wanted to send you a photo but it won't upload. The Force clearly isn't with me.)

I'm so glad, how old is he? Jupiter is 6 now and still hasn't calmed down,

He's ten and a half... 🙃

No hope for us for a few years then? He's fine walking on the lead but doesn't react well to other dogs or people if they come too close

Jedi walks OK on the lead, does can't-i-cross (too many haphazard zoomies and emergency stops to call it canicross) with me, and generally likes people and other dogs. Hates loud and sudden noises but barks madly himself, and thinks he can chase traffic while harnessed in our car. He drives me nuts and it'll break my heart when he's no longer there.

They have huge personalities don't they? I always said I'd get a collie once I retired then my daughter beat me to it and I've felt very lucky to share the journey, 😁 Jupiter does make a noise in the car, we thought he'd get used to it the number of times he made the 200 mile journey between their old home and here, but he gets so excited, yes they are wonderful companions and do break our hearts when they are no longer here, but worth every minute xx

Great run for you today MissUnderstanding the weather where I live in Central Scotland today was mainly dry but there were a few light showers, I had my washing out in the garden, there was a fresh west wind , temperature 12C

We had a random downpour too-my washing suffered as well! Hope yours didn’t get too wet. It’s so nice having it less rainy than earlier in the week!

Ha, my washing was a teeny damp when I brought it in at 4.15 pm, however, by 5 it was completely dry, I didn't need to put the tumble dryer on.

If you had to choose the weather for your 10k would you really have wanted it hot and sweaty? Much better of course for before you start and once you've finished but running in the heat is really hard work (personal opinion of course)

So, silver lining time, if the weather had been warm and sunny on Sunday you may not have got such a good time in your 10K :)

Now, rest and recover :)

Yes you’re absolutely right-I’d take rain over too hot any day. The rain certainly made it more memorable!!! 🤣

Today it’s yoga and a bit of weights…and cake. A balanced day! Have a fab day yourself!

Cold and bright is my absolute favourite kind of weather. My hat hasn’t made it out yet but I’ll be pleased when it does…I love a winter hat!! Glad you had such lovely weather too ❤️

definitely enjoying the sunshine here too although I set off yesterday in shorts (in October!) and t shirt and worked up quite a glow - 1 mile from home the heavens opened and I squelched home

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toMadwife60

The rain seems to sudden and explosive at the moment! It’s taken four days for my trainers to dry! I bet you were squelching.!! Rainy runs are for heroes though so that must mean you’re a hero for being out in it!

I agree with you about the weather on Sunday .I was Marshalling a local 5mile run by my club.I got absolutely soaked. Not any shelter. As it was chucking down Harvey my dog was also marshaling decided to stay in the car and watch from the window)

MissUnderstanding profile image
MissUnderstandingAdministratorGraduate10 in reply toOldfart75

There were some seriously soggy marshalls at my race and their encouragement was so, so appreciated. I bet yours was too! Your dog had the right idea staying in the car!!!!
