It’s ages since I’ve been on here, I’ve had notifications about posts but I haven’t actively engaged. I feel bad for not being a cheerleader for everyone else despite not being able to run myself - so belatedly way to go for everyone who’s been getting out there!
So at the beginning of summer having returned to regular running I embarked on the Magic Plan to 60 mins and had just run my first 6K ( not aiming for a 10k, more about the time than distance but it was a milestone nevertheless!) Then.. niggly Achilles 😡 I soldiered on for a bit but I’ve seen everyone’s good advice about being on the IC and eventually I conceded that full rest was needed. A gave it a few weeks. I was absolutely gutted to not pack my running gear when we went on holiday to Greece as I had planned to take the opportunity to do some hill training which I never can do here at home ( I think I get vertigo if my elevation goes above 25 m🤣). I had some lovely chats with fellow runners every morning at the bakery but I definitely had run envy.
Anyway throughout the summer every time I thought I might gently restart I felt those old niggles and decided I needed to commit to S&F first. Hand on heart I’ve not been as dedicated as I should have, but they have definitely felt better recently. I also spoke to a friend in the pub who is super fit but has struggled with a knee injury and had to have an operation. He gave me the name of a local physio who he had seen when his other knee started to hurt. The physio saw him once, gave him some exercises to do and said he shouldn’t need to return if he did them properly. He hasn’t had to return! This sounded like music to my ears so I’m now prepared with a plan B if necessary.
So, today after so many weeks off and a little bit scared if f I’m honest, I dusted off the gear. It shows how long it’s been as Ebony didn’t even lift a head off the sofa when she heard the squeak of the drawer - but when she saw me put on the pre run stretch on you tube - she gave the full spaniel excited! 😝 I decided to do a slow short run with no route in mind, and just see how it went. No headphones just me and the dog. As soon as I sat down on the bottom stair to lace up my trainers I felt the rush of anticipatory endorphins and thought, yep I can do this!
The warm up and cool down stretches were longer than the run itself, but I’ve made those first tiny steps towards recovery and getting back on track. Fingers crossed. 🤞🏼 Onwards and upwards ( well, not exactly upwards but onwards at least)
