Running shoes

Morning everyone. I have decided perhaps I need a new pair of running shoes - I think I bought my current ones in 2011! I now suffer from plantar fasciitis, and think I should probably treat myself. I only (try to!) run about half an hour x3/week so am not a distance runner by any stretch of the imagination so I don't want to spend zillions. I have looked at various running websites for recommendations for runners with plantar fasciitis and have found these which seem to be ok. But does anyone have any experience of these, or can give me any advice as to what to look for please. Thank you! amazon.co.uk/dp/B0CL6XL1MQ/...

I imagine everyone will suggest a gait analysis, especially as you have pain. I have those shoes and they are good for me but every one is different. I'd definitely see if you can get to a shop and at least try several pairs on. Buying direct from Brooks gives a 90 day money back if the ones you get aren't right too, Amazon don't offer that.

New shoes will definitely help though.

Good luck in your search, and remember, you don't have to buy from the shop you have a gait analysis from, you can still get them online afterwards and have the best price.

While your plantar fasciitis might be caused or exacerbated by wearing shoes that don't support your feet, it doesn't necessarily follow that Adrenalines are right for you.

I'd suggest you read these FAQs (from C25K) and get specialist advice before you buy anything: healthunlocked.com/couchto5... and healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

I'd be hesitant about getting your first proper running shoes mail order as (at the very least) it can take a long time going back and forth before you get the right fit and size.

At your level of activity, you'll probably need a new pair of shoes every 12 to 18 months.

🍏 I went to an orthopaedic podiatrist (as advised by my GP) about my PF & was given excellent exercise advice, bespoke insoles & advice re trainers. I have never had a problem since.

It really is worth going to a proper running shop to buy your running shoes. They won't suggest the most expensive shoes in the shop, they are interested in selling you the right pair.I love my Brooks but they do a range of different styles as runners have different needs. The ones you suggest might well be perfect but they might not. It's worth getting advice and maybe spending a little more on your first pair than taking the risk of getting shoes that are wrong.

Agreeing with everyone else-if you can get to a shop for help with your first pair, you can keep buying similar afterwards. That’s worked really well for me. Good luck and don’t forget to post photos…we love shoes here!!!

I’ve tried loads over the years and no matter how well fitted and after much trial, error, pain and plasters I’ve found I can only wear Nikes. It must be something to do with the shape of the back of my foot but they never ever rub and all three pairs have been perfect. This has been a significant discovery as my current pair of perfection Nike trail shoes were £4 from Vinted! Good luck

As said by others, I think it’s really important to go to a running shop for your first pair of running shoes, especially if you have PF problems. By running shop I don’t mean one of the chains that sell running shoes without the proper training. I was recommended a local independent store by runners at parkrun, and they allow you to run down the street in them while they look at your gait. If after buying, they don’t work for you, they will change them. Once you find your perfect pair, you can buy your next pair online with complete confidence.

HI everyone, thanks very much for your replies. (Just to be clear, these new shoes won't be my first pair, they will be my 2nd. My first pair were purchased about 12 years ago, hence the need for new ones!!) I agree, and have decided to give in and go to the same specialist shop I bought my original ones at. I hate shopping, I hate the whole rigmarole of having to take the time out of a busy life to go, but I don't think there's another option, so one day soon I will take the plunge, catch the bus, and go and see what I can find. Many thanks for all your help.
