I have been laid low by a summer cold which I'm blaming on last Sunday's humid cold/warm weather. Been pretty much bed-ridden feeling like I've been run over by a truck!
On the mend now, but its time to have a look at my 10K training programme and perhaps backing up a few weeks and repeating. That's what makes the best sense to me.
Hope you've all been out and about enjoying good health!!

Oh no! Get well soon. Coming back slowly is a good plan-your best bet is probably to go out for a gentle run when you’re ready and see how you feel. Nike Run Club has a fifteen minutes “Comeback Run”-that’s always my standard plan of action when I’ve been out of action. Just play it by ear and see how you go. You’re not in a rush to hit 10k so you could have some time exploring the NRC recovery run library and rejoin the plan when you’re ready. That might avoid any boredom repeating the same guided runs you’ve done recently!
There’s also a useful article linked here for deciding if you’re ready to come back. I’m terrible for pushing on too early and paying for it later.
My favourite NRC recovery run is the “Run with Lopez” series in three parts. That would be my recommendation for a nice set of easy runs…take tissues though!
It could be Covid which is lurking around. I know several people in different parts of the country who have had it very recently-one for the first time which annoyed him as he was pleased to have escaped it.
Don’t rush your return to strenuous activity in case.
Thanks! I did do a test last Monday and it was negative. I think its just a nasty sinusitis...Itching to get out but not going to happen for a while...
Hope you get better soon. Your doing the right thing by taking it easy. I was hospitalised a couple of weeks ago by a procedure that went wrong and I then got a bad head cold from work which floored me. I've tried running a few times since (thinking I was better), but my readings on Garmin are all over the place. HR shoots to top 2 zones and I get things like Threshhold and Overreacting. So I have decided to do no exercise for the next few days to see if it calms down.
