The Italian Job, or my 'new' shoes finally get a run

Our travels proceed and we are now in Palermo. The marina has a walkway that leads to a conference centre and yesterday we spotted lots of people running here. Reassuringly, a lot of them looked almost as old and decrepit at me. I said this to Mr Y, he replied ' Don't worry dear, nobody is as old and decrepit as you' 😂

So this morning, when he suggested a run before breakfast I was out of bed and doing my stretches before the coffee had brewed.

We only did just over 3km but it felt so good. I was worried I'd have forgotten how to run but that wasn't the case at all. The going was flat, and once we left the marina area we found a park by the beach next to a street of historic buildings, perfect.

It was fantastic to be running again and there was so much to see. The fishermen were selling their catch by the water and we saw a long canoe with about 10-15 older people rowing, what a place!

I have finally run in the shoes I bought before we came away. The last guided run I did Coach B pointed out that if you aren't conscious of the shoes you wear when you run they must be good ones. They definitely pass the test.

Okay.. .I want to say, well done, I want to say, happy, new shoes and I want to say , glad you had not forgotten how to run... but what I really want to say. is... I am so envious!

Warmth and sunshine, fishermen, rowers and beautiful buildings!!!

Sigh xxx

Seriously... so happy for you, enjoying the runs and the sun and the location. Enjoy, enjoy, enjoy.

Old and decrepit indeed !!! I don't think so! xxx

Thanks Oldfloss , you always say such lovely things. I wish you could come and join us too (though you probably wouldn't have wanted yesterday's seasickness 😂)

We are having a truly wonderful time and believe me I know how very lucky we are to be able to do this. I've met so many people who had similar plans but ill health or other misfortune intervened.

I'm following the example of my wonderful Mum, who, after a childhood of abject poverty managed to become a really successful businesswoman then retired and travelled the world until she was incapacitated by a stroke at 75. She had a trove of wonderful memories to look back on. I was just glad she had the opportunity to benefit from all her hard work. Her favourite place was Fiji!

PS I will probably feel really decrepit when I wake up tomorrow, poor old knees!!!

I’m with you there OF!😀. I was freezing my butt off in Lincs 🥶 Oh to be somewhere warm. My promised winter sun never materialised so I have to “sun” myself via other posters holidays 🏖 Sad state of affairs but hey ho ☺️

What a lovely role model to follow... you hold that memory of her and her memories, while you make new ones :)

A few knee exercises and a restful night... you will be just fine xxx

3km is such a nice distance to run, and especially in new shoes!!! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. Not for the first time, I’ll also you what a stunning location you’re running in! My Friday run around a gritty housing estate stacks up very poorly 🤣

Keep those beautiful picture coming. I’ll try and put my envy to one side!
